The synthesis and characterization of two phthalocyanine (Pc) structural isomers, and , in which four 2,6-di(hexyloxy)phenyl units were attached directly to the 1,8,15,22- or 1,4,15,18-positions of the Pc rings, are described. Both Pcs and exhibited low melting points, i.e.

Metastable states of soft matters are extensively used in designing stimuli-responsive materials. However, the non-steady properties may obstruct consistent performance. Here we report an approach to eradicate the indistinguishable metastable supercooled state of functional molecular liquids (FMLs), which remains as a liquid for weeks or months before crystallizing, rational molecular design.

Novel pyridine-substituted subphthalocyanines were prepared for an additional harvesting of a green spectral region of the solar light spectrum for zinc phthalocyanine-based dye-sensitized solar cells. These compounds can bind with the central metal of zinc phthalocyanines to form the corresponding supramolecular complexes as monitored by the absorption and fluorescence spectral changes. The stability constants of these complexes were altered by the number and position of pyridine units in the pyridine-substituted subphthalocyanines.
