Purpose: Fimasartan, the ninth and most recent angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) approved by the Korea Food and Drug Administration, has shown similar efficacy and safety profiles compared to other ARBs. However, due to being predominantly excreted by the hepatobiliary system, concerns on safety have been raised regarding its use in patients with underlying liver disease.
Patients And Methods: This prospective, 12-month, observational study evaluated patients with essential hypertension (HTN) receiving ≥1 dose of fimasartan.
Background: The Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI) network is an international collaboration established to apply open-source data analytics to a large network of health databases, including the Korean common data model (K-CDM) network.
Objective: The aim of this study is to analyze the effect that age at diagnosis has on the prognosis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in Korea using a CDM network database.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the K-CDM network database from 2005 to 2015.
Background And Aim: Generally, colonoscopy is less effective for detecting colorectal adenomas in the right-sided colon compared with the distal colon. Repeat forward-view (RF) examination of the right-sided colon has been suggested to increase the adenoma detection rate (ADR). However, studies investigating the efficacy of RF examination are lacking.

Objective: Direct comparison of the clinical outcomes between nucleos(t)ide analogue (NA) discontinuation versus NA continuation has not been performed in patients with chronic hepatitis B who achieved HBsAg-seroclearance. Whether NA discontinuation was as safe as NA continuation after NA-induced surface antigen of HBV (HBsAg) seroclearance was investigated in the present study.
Designs: This multicentre study included 276 patients from 16 hospitals in Korea who achieved NA-induced HBsAg seroclearance: 131 (47.
Although obesity is associated with an increased risk of peptic ulcer disease (PUD), no study has evaluated the association of PUD with sarcopenia. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association of sarcopenia and obesity with PUD. Data from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) IV and V for 2007-2012 were used.

This study aimed to investigate the clinical impact of concurrent NAFLD on the prognosis of patients with CHB-related HCC.
Methods: Patients with CHB-related HCC who underwent surgical resection were consecutively selected from August 2009 to December 2013.
Purpose: To identify the clinical characteristics and risk factors for secondary choroidal neovascularization (CNV) in central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC).
Methods: In this retrospective study, we included a total of 108 eyes in 106 CSC patients. Group A was defined as patients initially diagnosed with CSC who developed secondary CNV, and group B was defined as patients who did not develop secondary CNV.
Background And Aims: Sorafenib is a proven first-line treatment recommended for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients with portal vein invasion (PVI). However, multiple treatment modalities are used in clinical practice as a first-line option. This study is a prospective, observational, multicenter, cohort study evaluating patterns of treatment modalities and outcomes for HCC patients with PVI.

Background And Purpose: This study aimed to determine the clinimetric properties of the Korean version of Parkinson's Disease Sleep Scale-2 (K-PDSS-2) and whether distinct subtypes of sleep disturbance can be empirically identified in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) using the cross-culturally validated K-PDSS-2.
Methods: The internal consistency, test-retest reliability, scale precision, and convergent validity of K-PDSS-2 were assessed in a nationwide, multicenter study of 122 patients with PD. Latent class analysis (LCA) was used to derive subgroups of patients who experienced similar patterns of sleep-related problems and nocturnal disabilities.
Purpose: To investigate the microstructure of cystoid macular edema (CME) in retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and the associated vascular changes using optical coherence tomography (OCT) angiography.
Methods: In this retrospective study, we included 42 eyes of 21 patients with RP and age-similar normally sighted controls who underwent both OCT and optical coherence tomography angiography. Using OCT, spatial distribution of CME and the retinal layer, which CME located, was examined.
Background: The relationship between cephalosporin hypersensitivity and a history of β-lactam hypersensitivity is unclear. We evaluated the usefulness of routine intradermal cefazolin skin testing and its relationship with the history of β-lactam hypersensitivity.
Methods: The electronic medical records of patients who underwent intradermal cefazolin (0.
Background: Increasing levels of antibiotic resistance have reduced the () eradication rates afforded by the standard triple therapy. Thus, 2-wk first-line four-drug regimens must be considered.
Aim: To analyze the eradication rates of modified bismuth-containing quadruple therapy (mBCQT) and concomitant therapy (CT), the associated adverse events, and compliance.
Background: Few studies have compared the efficacy and safety profile of a tailored eradication (TR) strategy based on the presence of a 23S ribosomal RNA point mutation with those of empirical bismuth-based quadruple therapy (EBQT) for first-line eradication of () in Korean patients.
Aim: To compare the efficacy and safety of a TR strategy and those of EBQT regimen as first-line eradication therapy for .
Methods: This is an open-label, comparative study in which we prospectively enrolled patients over 18 years of age with infection and retrospectively reviewed their data.

Purpose: To compare optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) parameters between type 1 and type 2 diabetic patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR).
Methods: A total of 70 patients with type 1 diabetes and 70 with type 2 diabetes were retrospectively analyzed. DR was graded as no DR, mild nonproliferative DR (NPDR), moderate NPDR, severe NPDR, and proliferative DR (PDR).
Background/aims: The risk for colonoscopic postpolypectomy bleeding (PPB) in patients with chronic liver disease (CLD) remains unclear. We determined the incidence and risk factors for colonoscopic PPB in patients with CLD, especially those with liver cirrhosis.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients with CLD who underwent colonoscopic polypectomy at Seoul National University Hospital between 2011 and 2014.
Context: The long-term association between multiple cytokines and progression to diabetes is still uncertain.
Objective: To identify which cytokines could predict progression to prediabetes and type 2 diabetes over 10 years.
Methods: The study included 912 participants aged 40 to 69 years at baseline from the Ansung cohort, part of the Korea Genome Epidemiology Study.
Background: For patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the definition of refractoriness to transarterial chemoembolization (TACE), which might make them a candidate for systemic therapy, is still controversial. We aimed to derive and validate a tumor marker-based algorithm to define the refractoriness to TACE in patients with intermediate-stage HCC.
Methods: This multi-cohort study was comprised of patients who underwent TACE for treatment-naïve intermediate-stage HCC.
Nociceptin/orphanin FQ (N/OFQ) and its receptor, nociceptin opioid peptide (NOP) receptor, are localized in brain areas implicated in depression including the amygdala, bed nucleus of the stria terminalis, habenula, and monoaminergic nuclei in the brain stem. N/OFQ inhibits neuronal excitability of monoaminergic neurons and monoamine release from their terminals by activation of G protein-coupled inwardly rectifying K channels and inhibition of voltage sensitive calcium channels, respectively. Therefore, NOP receptor antagonists have been proposed as a potential antidepressant.
