Objectives: Macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) is a hyperinflammatory condition that is known to be secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) in patients with rheumatic disease. The aim of study was to evaluate the clinical manifestations and outcomes in patients with MAS with rheumatic disease.

Materials And Methods: We performed a retrospective study of 20 adult patients who were diagnosed with MAS from 2012 to 2020.

Silicone rubber is a biocompatible elastomeric polymer, with great potential for mechanical and biologic sensing applications, if electrical circuits can be reliably integrated. Laser direct structuring is a bottom-up circuit fabrication process, whereby copper is chemically grown on laser exposed regions of a modified substrate, promoting adhesion by laser roughening the circuit tracks. In this Research Article, we successfully demonstrate this process using superflexible biocompatible silicone (30 hardness on Shore 00) with copper chromite additive, cast into both 2D planar and 3D contour substrates.

A New Grading System for Migrated Lumbar Disc Herniation on Sagittal Magnetic Resonance Imaging: An Agreement Study.

Understanding the degree of disc migration is essential in order to diagnose, treat, and assess the prognosis of migrated lumbar disc herniation (LDH). Based on anatomical configuration, we developed a simple six-level grading system for migrated lumbar disc herniation. We aimed to evaluate whether the new grading system was reliable and could replace the previous grading system.

Triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) uses charge transfer between two asymmetric charge affinity materials such as metal and dielectrics. Metal electrode acts as charge collector from dielectrics and acts as charge transfer path to an external load, which model deals with only a net charge of metal electrode concerning electrical output. In this work, we found that metal electrode in triboelectric generator has non-negligible surface charge polarization causing open-circuit voltage difference in the model TENG system.

Exon skipping induced by CRISPR-directed gene editing regulates the response to chemotherapy in non-small cell lung carcinoma cells.

We have been developing CRISPR-directed gene editing as an augmentative therapy for the treatment of non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) by genetic disruption of Nuclear Factor Erythroid 2-Related Factor 2 (NRF2). NRF2 promotes tumor cell survival in response to therapeutic intervention and thus its disablement should restore or enhance effective drug action. Here, we report how NRF2 disruption leads to collateral damage in the form of CRISPR-mediated exon skipping.

Nanoscale-Femtosecond Imaging of Evanescent Surface Plasmons on Silver Film by Photon-Induced Near-Field Electron Microscopy.

Surface plasmons on silver nanostructures have a broad range of tunable resonance properties in visible and near-infrared regimes, which possess wide applications in nanophotonics and optoelectronics. Here we use a femtosecond laser to excite surface plasmons on a silver film and trace the subsequent transient dynamics via photon-induced near-field electron microscopy (PINEM). A polarization experiment of PINEM demonstrates a conspicuous polarization dependence of the transient surface plasmon field on the silver film; however, unlike silver nanowires and nanorods, there is no polarization dependence for the PINEM intensity.

Prediction of Recurrent Urinary Tract Infection in Paediatric Patients by Deep Learning Analysis of Tc-DMSA Renal Scan.

: Tc-99m dimercaptosuccinic acid (Tc-DMSA) renal scan is an important tool for the assessment of childhood urinary tract infection (UTI), vesicoureteral reflux (VUR), and renal scarring. We evaluated whether a deep learning (DL) analysis of Tc-DMSA renal scans could predict the recurrence of UTI better than conventional clinical factors. : the subjects were 180 paediatric patients diagnosed with UTI, who underwent immediate post-therapeutic Tc-DMSA renal scans.

Comparison of Lateral Interbody Fusion and Posterior Interbody Fusion for Discogenic Low Back Pain.

Aim: To compare lateral (direct [DLIF] or oblique [OLIF]) and posterior (posterior [PLIF] or transforaminal [TLIF]) lumbar interbody fusion results in patients with the same indication of discogenic low back pain.

Material And Methods: We enrolled 46 patients who underwent single-level DLIF/OLIF or PLIF/TLIF with at least 1 year of follow-up. Patients were divided into two groups: a lateral group (n=24) who underwent DLIF/OLIF and a posterior group (n=22) who underwent PLIF/TLIF.

Introduction: To determine the safety of Janus kinase inhibitor (JAKi) use following herpes zoster (HZ) reactivation in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Methods: Medical records of all patients who received JAKi at a tertiary referral center between August 2015 and June 2021 were retrospectively reviewed. Data from patients who developed HZ reactivation were collected, and the HZ-related safety of those who continued JAKis after reactivation was evaluated.

Glymphatic Dysfunction in Patients With End-Stage Renal Disease.

Background: We aimed to compare glymphatic dysfunction between patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and healthy controls and analyze the correlation between the glymphatic function and clinical characteristics using the diffusion tensor image analysis along with the perivascular space (DTI-ALPS) index.

Methods: We prospectively enrolled neurologically asymptomatic 49 patients with ESRD undergoing dialysis and 38 healthy controls. Diffusion tensor image was conducted using the same 3T scanner, and the DTI-ALPS index was calculated.

Curated variation benchmarks for challenging medically relevant autosomal genes.

The repetitive nature and complexity of some medically relevant genes poses a challenge for their accurate analysis in a clinical setting. The Genome in a Bottle Consortium has provided variant benchmark sets, but these exclude nearly 400 medically relevant genes due to their repetitiveness or polymorphic complexity. Here, we characterize 273 of these 395 challenging autosomal genes using a haplotype-resolved whole-genome assembly.
