Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical utility of metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) in sepsis patients who received early empirical antibiotic treatment.
Patients And Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on clinical data from sepsis patients diagnosed in the Emergency Intensive Care Unit (EICU) between April 2019 and May 2023. All patients underwent standard conventional microbiological testing.
In the present study, composites incorporating NiO-CoO (NC) and CuO-NiO-CoO (CNC) as active electrode materials were produced through the hydrothermal method and their performance was investigated systematically. The composition, formation, and nanocomposite structure of the fabricated material were characterized by XRD, FTIR, and UV-Vis. The FE-SEM analysis revealed the presence of rod and spherical mixed morphologies.

An atmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ) is used to process electrochemically deposited NiFe on carbon paper (NiFe/CP). The reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONs) of the APPJ modify the surface properties, chemical bonding types, and oxidation states of the material at the self-sustained temperature of the APPJ. The APPJ treatment further enhances the hydrophilicity and creates a higher disorder level in the carbon material.

Methods: Eight-week-old male C57BL/6 J mice were fed a normal chow diet (NCD) or HFD with or without different concentrations of caffeine.
Objectives: Recent studies have shown that fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) improved the metabolic profiles of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), yet the effectiveness in reversing insulin resistance and increasing metformin sensitivity in T2DM patients have not been reported. In this study, we evaluated the improvements of T2DM patients and their gut microbiota by FMT alone and FMT plus metformin.
Methods: A total of 31 patients with newly diagnosed T2DM were randomized to intervention by metformin, FMT, or FMT plus metformin in the study.
Purpose: To use the triglyceride glucose (TyG) index to evaluate insulin resistance (IR) in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and to explore alternative indicators for early identification of IR.
Patients And Methods: This study included 114 patients with PCOS and 61 healthy volunteers. Pearson or Spearman correlations were calculated to compare the association between the TyG index and triglyceride glucose body mass index (TyG-BMI) with homeostatic model assessment for IR (HOMA-IR), homeostasis model assessment for β-cell function (HOMA-β), quantitative insulin sensitivity check index (QUICKI), and fasting glucose-to-insulin ratio (FG-IR).

There are significant bacterial, fungal community and metabolite differences among PCOS patients and healthy volunteers with normal/overweight individuals. Healthy individuals with overweight/obesity display less abnormal metabolism than PCOS patients and uniquely higher abundance of the fungal genus Mortierella.
