Article Synopsis
  • Follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) is a common thyroid cancer with a higher risk of spreading than other types, making accurate diagnosis during surgery difficult due to the limitations of intraoperative frozen section (IOFS).
  • Researchers created a predictive model based on data from 493 patients that identifies five key factors linked to FTC: nodule size, thyroglobulin levels, hypoechogenicity, margins, and halo thickness.
  • The model showed strong performance with an AUC of 0.83 in the training set, providing effective predictions that help surgeons assess and decide on the appropriate level of surgery for suspicious thyroid nodules.
