Parkinson's disease (PD) decreases the quality of life of the affected individuals. The incidence of PD is expected to increase given the growing aging population. Motor symptoms associated with PD render the patients unable to self-care and function properly.

Alginate, an FDA-approved natural biomaterial usually used as a therapeutic adjuvant, drug carrier, and biological scaffold, reportedly assists the immune system to activate cytotoxic T cells in antitumor assays. In this study, we investigated the direct effect of alginate on cytotoxic T cell function. By incubating sorted cytotoxic CD8 T cells with alginate, we found that this material facilitated the antitumor cytotoxic activities of T cells.

However, the biological roles of TRIM28 and related mechanism in colorectal cancer (CRC) remain unclear. Here, we showed that TRIM28 was downregulated in colorectal cancer compared with normal mucosa, especially at advanced stages, and acted as an independent prognostic factor of favorable outcome.

This ancestral mode of fertilization has, however, generally been considered to have been lost during the evolutionary history of terrestrial flowering plants. We investigated reproductive mechanisms in the subtropical ginger Cautleya gracilis (Zingiberaceae), which has two pollen conditions - granular and filiform masses - depending on external conditions.

In this study, we aimed to examine how the selfing timing correlated with floral traits in three Gentianopsis species in which autonomous selfing is achieved through filament elongation. Although the three Gentianopsis species exhibit no significant variation in their capacity for autonomous selfing, flowers of G.

Floral organs have long been supposed to play a crucial role in fertilization by pollinators. However, why innovative organs occur, how they are adapted for pollinators and what sexual roles they play are still puzzling.

However, few studies have been done experimentally to link the floral mechanism of SPP to its functional roles in pollination process. This study aims to describe a new SPP mechanism from a wild ginger (Zingiber densissimum, Zingiberaceae) and explore how the pollen arrangement of SPP affects pollen removal during the interaction with different pollinators.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of CIK cell treatment as an adjuvant immunotherapy on the prognosis of gastric carcinoma in patients after surgery.
Methods: The patients with stage II-III gastric carcinoma after gastrectomy, including 53 patients receiving autologous CIK cell treatment combined with chemotherapy (CIK group) and 112 patients in the corresponding period receiving chemotherapy alone (control group), were retrospectively studied.
Background: The relationship between body mass index (BMI) and long-term outcome in gastric cancer patients following radical gastrectomy continues to be debated. We investigated the association between BMI, clinicopathological features, and prognosis in Chinese gastric carcinoma patients.
Methods: A retrospective consecutive cohort study was performed on 1,296 patients who underwent gastrectomy with curative intent at the Tianjin Cancer Institute Hospital between 1999 and 2004.
Background And Aims: Delayed selfing is the predominant mode of autonomous self-pollination in flowering plants. However, few delayed selfing mechanisms have been documented. This research aims to explore a new delayed selfing mechanism induced by stigmatic fluid in Roscoea debilis, a small perennial ginger.
