Silicon (Si) has been reported to mitigate aluminium (Al) toxicity in rice; however, the mechanism underlying this beneficial effect has not been fully elucidated. In this study, Si addition increased the total level of both free and conjugated putrescine (Put) content in rice leaves by 89.3 % through up-regulation of the key synthesis genes in both of arginine decarboxylase (ADC) and ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) pathways under Al stress.

Our previous studies have identified mitsugumin 53 (MG53) as a novel regulator for angiogenesis by directly entering endothelial cells and modulating focal adhesion kinase (FAK) activation, but little is known about how rhMG53 is taken up by cells and how rhMG53 mediates cell movement. In the present study, we demonstrated that the knockdown of caveolin-1 and the clathrin inhibitor, pitstop-2, both significantly reduced the entry of rhMG53 into endothelial cells, indicating caveolae-dependent and clathrin-dependent endocytosis during this process. The internalised rhMG53 remarkably inhibited the phosphorylation of FAK and the downstream signalling molecule paxillin, consequently resulting in a significant decrease in focal adhesion turnover during endothelial cell spreading and migration.

Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) represents one of the most common subtypes of lung cancer with high rates of incidence and mortality, which contributes to substantial health and economic demand across the globe. Treatment today mainly consists of surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, but their efficacy in advanced stages is often suboptimal and emphasizes the clear need for new biomarkers and therapeutic targets. This study aimed to investigate the performance differences of low-sodium myofibrillar protein (MP) gels substituted by different chloride salt mixtures from the perspective of gelation process. The results revealed that low-sodium MP substituted by KCl/CaCl exhibited higher turbidity and particle size at 40 % substitution, and formed protein aggregates earlier at 53 °C. During the gelation process, KCl/CaCl increased the extent of cross-linking as the substitution level increased from 10 % to 40 %, which was prone to forming final gels with poor palatability.

The problems of complex background, low quality of finger vein images, and poor discriminative features have been the bottleneck of feature extraction and finger vein recognition. To this end, we propose a feature extraction algorithm based on the open-set testing protocol. In order to eliminate the interference of irrelevant areas, this paper proposes the idea of segmentation-assisted classification, that is, using the rough mask of the finger vein to constrain the feature learning process so that the network can focus on the vein area and learn greater weight for the vein.

The protein structure, gel changes, and chewing properties of low-sodium myofibrillar protein (MP) prepared by compound chloride salts (KCl/MgCl, KCl/CaCl, and KCl/MgCl/CaCl) and different substitution degrees (10%, 25%, and 40%) at same ionic strength (0.6 M) were investigated. The results revealed that the low-sodium MP gels containing CaCl manifested more liquid loss and less moisture content accompanied by obvious morphological shrinkage, while KCl/MgCl contributed to the gel juiciness.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is the most predominant type of idiopathic interstitial pneumonia and has an increasing incidence, poor prognosis, and unclear pathogenesis. In order to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying IPF further, we performed single-cell RNA sequencing analysis on three healthy controls and five IPF lung tissue samples. The results revealed a significant shift in epithelial cells (ECs) phenotypes in IPF, which may be attributed to the differentiation of alveolar type 2 cells to basal cells.

The effects of inoculating lactic acid bacteria (LAB), specifically , , , and on the flavor, texture, and color formation of dry sausages in which NaCl was partially substituted by 40% KCl, were explored in this study. It was found that LAB inoculation increased the presence of ketones, alcohols, acids, esters, and terpenes. It also reduced the pH, moisture, protein, and fat content, improving the *-value, flavor, and texture of the sausages.
