To enhance the current clinical understanding and improve the diagnosis and treatment of Actinotignum schaalii infections, we have presented here a report of the case of recurrent infections at a periumbilical scar, induced by Actinotignum schaalii and complicated by abscess formation in a 50-year-old woman with persistent festering at the site of a periumbilical scar after laparoscopy 9 years ago, with subsequent ruptures over the past 2 years. Physical examination revealed a radial fold scar with localized redness and slight swelling of the skin below the navel. Although no significant increase in the local skin temperature was noted, tenderness was present.

The non-cooperation game with heterogeneous dynamics is of both theoretical significance and practical relevance because of its extensive penetration into various fields, such as the game confrontation composed of unmanned aerial vehicles and unmanned vehicles or the power generation systems with varied turbine assemblies. To solve such a game problem, this paper investigates distributed Nash equilibrium (NE) and generalized Nash equilibrium (GNE) seeking problems for heterogeneous multi-player systems in non-cooperation games. First, by incorporating the output regulation technique, a distributed NE seeking strategy is designed for heterogeneous multi-player games over undirected communication networks.

In this article, we investigate how being socially excluded (vs. included) affects people's distributive fairness judgements and their willingness to cooperate with others in subsequent interactions. For this purpose, we conducted three experiments in which we assessed individual differences in having experienced being socially excluded (Experiment 1, N = 164), and manipulated social exclusion (Experiment 2, N = 120; Experiment 3, N = 492).

Article Synopsis
  • - The study explored how social comparisons affect cooperative behavior through three experiments, focusing on mediating factors like evaluation of others' competence and emotions.
  • - Experiment 1 found that upward social comparisons encourage cooperation, while downward comparisons discourage it, with evaluation of others' competence acting as a mediator, especially when the social distance is perceived as far.
  • - Subsequent experiments confirmed that social distance influences the mediating role of competence evaluation; it weakens when the comparator is closer, highlighting the importance of both social comparison and perception of distance in fostering cooperation.

Splenic abscesses (SA), especially in children, are rare in clinical practice. The missed diagnosis rate of SA is high and the probability of rapidly diagnosing it is relatively low due to its low incidence rate and the presence of non-specific clinical symptoms and imaging manifestations. Antibiotics are the primary treatment for SA; however, ultrasound-guided percutaneous puncture suction or drainage, and splenectomy are other effective treatment strategies.

Human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) are structurally diverse unconjugated glycans, and play crucial roles in protecting infants from infections. Preterm birth is one of the leading causes of neonatal mortality, and preterm infants are particularly vulnerable and are in need of improved outcomes from breast-feeding due to the presence of bioactive HMOs. However, studies on specific difference in HMOs as a function of gestation time have been very limited.

This study conducted two experiments to explore the effects of intuitive thinking and social value orientation (SVO) on cooperative behavior and assess the mediating effect of cooperative expectations. It manipulated intuitive thinking by increasing the participants' need for cognitive closure, classified SVO using the triple-dominance measure, measured cooperative behavior using the prisoner's dilemma game, and considered cooperative expectations based on participants' assessments of the cooperativeness of their counterparts. Both experiments showed that intuitive thinking increased and decreased the cooperation of pro-social and pro-self individuals, respectively.
