In order to provide the "guiding principles of clinical research on mild cognitive impairment (MCI) (protocol)" edited by Beijing United Study Group on MCI of the Capital Foundation of Medical Developments (CFMD) with evidence support, clinical criteria, subtypes, inclusion and exclusion of MCI, and use of rating scales were reviewed. The authors suggested that MCI clinical criteria and new diagnosis procedure from the MCI Working Group of the European Alzheimer's disease Consortium (EADC) may better reflect the heterogeneity of MCI syndrome. Diagnostic rating scales including Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR), Global Deterioration Scale (GDS), Alzheimer's Disease Assessment Scale-cognitive subscale (ADAS-cog) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) are very useful in definition of MCI but can not replace its clinical criteria.

Mild cognitive impairment (MCI), as a nosological entity referring to elderly people with MCI but without dementia, was proposed as a warning signal of dementia occurrence and a novel therapeutic target. MCI clinical criteria and diagnostic procedure from the MCI Working Group of the European Alzheimer's Disease Consortium (EADC) may better reflect the heterogeneity of MCI syndrome. Beijing United Study Group on MCI funded by the Capital Foundation of Medical Developments (CFMD) proposed the guiding principles of clinical research on MCI.

By investigating the limitation of quality control pattern for Chinese medicine, the differences and similarities in the chemical substantial style as well as quality control patterns among Chinese medicine, chemical synthetic drugs and Biologicals, combining with the author's experience on the research of geo-authentic medicinal material and theory of Chinese medicinal nature, a new pattern of quality control for Chinese medicine has been explored and designed. A more rational pattern of quality control for Chinese medicine should be referred to Biologicals instead of chemical synthetic drugs, there are more similarity in chemical substantial style and quality control pattern for Chinese medicine between Chinese medicine and Biologicals than that between Chinese medicine and chemical synthetic drugs.

These genes have been providing insights into the molecular basis of brain plasticity in stroke rehabilitation. However, the extent of plasticity has not been investigated using a chemogenomic approach.

In the last several years, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has made much progress in the treatment of neurological diseases. The living space of TCM in neurological diseases lies in refractory diseases, aging and chronic diseases caused by multiple factors as well as sub-health state and chronic fatigue state. The effect model of TCM mainly consists of whole effect, self-organization, self-stable model, holographic effect and butterfly effect.

Objective: To investigate the prepation of the liposome carried with vincristine sulfate (VCR) and mitoxantrone chlorhydric acid (MTO) and to evaluate the quality of the liposome.
Method: The liposome carried with VCR and MIT was prepared by pH-gradients method and reverse evaporation technique. HPLC was employed to determine VCR and MIT entrapping efficiency of liposomal.

The mechanism of Chinese medications have some characteristic such as multi-pathway, multi-components, multi-targets and so on, which decide the direction of systems research. In the recent years, microarrays be concerned with the relative field of Chinese medications for its superiority of highthough, parallel and high-density. This paper mainly generalize the approach of these methods in the recent three years, such as finding effective target of Chinese medications, effective part of Chinese medications, checkup of Chinese medications, screening new drugs and so on.

Objective: To establish a GC fingerprint of the volatile oil of Houttuynia cordata.
Method: The volatile oil was extracted from H. cordata by water stream distillation method, and analyzed by GC coupled with FID.
Objective: To explore the influence of one Chinese herbal extract complex (GETO) on the expression of corticotropin-releasing factor(CRF) and protein kinasec(PKC) proteins of the hippocampus in middle cerebral artery orilusion(MCAO) rats.
Method: All rats were subjected to MCAO by nylon thread, except the sham-group rats. Rats were divied into four groups: sham-group, cerebral ischemia model-group, GETO-group(6.
By using amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) markers, this paper studied the genetic relationships among five wild or cultivated Gardenia jasminoides Ellis populations in Jiangxi Province. Chemical fingerprint was also built with HPLC method. The results showed that there was a great genetic difference among these samples.

Methods: The release behaviors of the VCR and MTO from compound liposomes were studied in vitro. HPLC was developed for the determination of the contents of VCR and MTO in tissues in mice.
The predictive accuracy of the model is of the most concern for computational chemists in quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) investigations. It is hypothesized that the model based on analogical chemicals will exhibit better predictive performance than that derived from diverse compounds. This paper develops a novel scheme called "clustering first, and then modeling" to build local QSAR models for the subsets resulted from clustering of the training set according to structural similarity.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe ultimate intention of quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) study in toxicology is to predict the toxic potential of untested compounds with great accuracy. As QSAR has been based on the assumption that compounds from the same chemical domain will behave in similar manner, the QSAR model built upon the analogical chemicals is hypothesized to exhibit better performance than that derived from the miscellaneous data set. In this paper, the acute toxicity, 96 h LC(50) (median lethal concentration) for the fathead minnow from database EPAFHM_v2a_617_1Mar05 served as the interested toxicity endpoint, and the mode of action (MOA) in toxic response was employed as a criterion to compartmentalize the chemical domains.

Methods: Forty ApoE-mice, six weeks of age, were given high-fat diet and randomly divided into four groups: high-dose WQBP-treated group (360 mg/kg), low-dose WQBP-treated group (72 mg/kg), simvastatin-treated group (25 mg/kg) and untreated group, with ten mice in each group. Meanwhile, ten C57BL/6 mice of same genetic background were allocated to normal control group.
To compare the individual effects of baicalin and jasminoidin with the combined effect of them on cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury, and test whether the combined administration of baicalin and jasminoidin can improve the therapeutic effect. Male Sprague-Dawley rats underwent focal cerebral ischemia for 1.5 h and reperfusion for 24 h.

Some clinical trials showed that the efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine was not good as the efficacy of western medicine even thoush clinical doctors have been using traditional medicine effectively. Such a result originated from improper application of western medical thoughts in routine clinical efficacy evaluation. To find differences from effective cases with non-effective cases and put the differences into the indication of next clinical trial would conform to the differentiation theory in traditional Chinese medicine.

Method: Rat model of ischemia reperfusion was established with thread. Generally accepted methods were used, including TTC staining, behavior test, as well as micro and ultra microscopy which can dynamically and accurately monitor pathological and physiological changes after cerebral ischemia on earlier period, to evaluate the brain injury induced by ischemia and the attenuations by the drugs.

In the opinion of dialectical materialism, concept is developing with the deepening and broadening of human being's mind. The developing process of syndrome concept in traditional Chinese medicine also takes the same way. In the Sui and Tang Dynasties, the connotation of syndrome concept was defined and the embryonic form of syndrome differentiation of zang-fu viscera was formed.

The researching thinking approach of "descending the dimension with the lowering rank, ascending the rank with the raising of nsion of dimension", which could exclude the intervention of non-crucial fact ors and reveal the complexity of syndrome as well, provides a feasible approach for syndrome standardization. A study was conducted by analyzing some syndromes and their correlated factors selected from the "Ancient Good-sized Medical Records Database" through unconditional logistic multivariate stepwise regression by SAS 6.12 universal statistical software to sieve the variable, and the mathematical mode of regression equation was obtained eventually, expressed as logit (p) = alpha + beta1X1 + beta2X2 + .
