Background: Azoospermia, characterized by the absence of spermatozoa in the ejaculate, affects approximately 1% of all men and 10 - 15% of infertile males, representing the most severe form of male infertility. It is classified into obstructive azoospermia (OA) and nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA), with the latter often resulting from unexplained failures in spermatogenesis. This study endeavored to clarify the molecular underpinnings of sper-matogenesis in NOA and to identify viable therapeutic targets.

Understanding the differences in ubiquitination-modified proteins between Duroc pigs and Tibetan fragrant pigs is crucial for comprehending the growth and development of their skeletal muscles. In this study, skeletal muscle samples from 30-day-old Duroc pigs and Tibetan fragrant pigs were collected. Using ubiquitination 4D-Label free quantitative proteomics, we analyzed and identified ubiquitination-modified peptides, screening out 109 differentially expressed ubiquitination-modified peptides.

Article Synopsis
  • Heat shock proteins (Hsps) are important stress response proteins; specifically, larval Hsp70s were identified as key structural components of the Heliothis virescens ascovirus 3h (HvAV-3h) that infects noctuid larvae.
  • A study used quantitative PCR to analyze the expression patterns of hsp70s in healthy larvae of various Spodoptera species under different stress conditions, revealing distinct responses and similarities among these species.
  • After infection with HvAV-3h, hsp70 expression increased in all tested larvae, with notable activity in the fat bodies and hemolymph, and silencing Slhsp70 led to reduced DNA replication levels of the virus, indicating its

Na Ti O is considered one of the most promising anode materials for sodium ion batteries due to its superior safety, environmental friendliness, and low manufacturing cost. However, its structural stability and reaction mechanism still have not been fully explored. As the electron beam irradiation introduces a similar impact on the Na Ti O anode as the extraction of Na ions during the battery discharge process, the microstructure evolution of the materials is investigated by advanced electron microscopy techniques at the atomic scale.

Saposhnikovia divaricata is a commonly used bulk medicinal plant. To explore the key enzyme genes and their expression in the biosynthesis of chromone and coumarin, the key active components, we carried out transcriptome sequencing(Illumina HiSeq) and bioinformatics analysis for the 1-year-old(S1) and 2-year-old(S2) plants of S. divaricata.

Acute lung injury (ALI) is the leading cause of bacterial sepsis-related death because of disrupted pulmonary endothelial barrier, resulting in protein-rich pulmonary oedema, an influx of pro-inflammatory cells and refractory hypoxaemia. Several studies have reported that C3a levels are significantly higher in organs with sepsis and their peripheral organs and are closely associated with organ dysfunction and poor prognosis in sepsis. However, the role of the C3a complement in sepsis ALI remains unclear.

Objective: To identify and analyze the most prominent problems of peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients by applying a nurse-led multidisciplinary health problem assessment tool.

Methods: 170 PD patients were recruited from the PD center of the First Affiliated Hospital of GuangXi Medical University from January 2019 to June 2019, and their information was collected from July 2019 to June 2020 through telephone interviews, Wechat interviews, outpatient visits, and home visits; their health problems were classified and analyzed with regard to physiological, psychosocial, health-related behavior, and environment categories based on the Omaha Problem Classification System, and their knowledge, behavior, and status related to these problems were evaluated by the Omaha Knowledge-Behavior-Status Scale.

Results: 165 of the eligible patients completed the follow-up, and their ten most prominent health problems were "Income", "Social contact", "Pain", "Neuro-musculo-skeletal function", "Digestion-hydration" and "Edema", "Nutrition", "Physical activity", "Fluid and diet restriction", and "Symptom management".

The famous Kibble-Zurek mechanism offers us a significant clue to study quantum phase transitions out of equilibrium. Here, we investigate an intriguing phenomenon of a spin-orbit coupled Bose-Einstein condensate by quenching the Raman coupling strength from a high-symmetry phase (nonmagnetic phase) to a low-symmetry phase (magnetic phase). When crossing the critical point, the fluctuation of momentum distribution leads to delayed bifurcation structures.

Objective: To analyze the clinical efficacy of hip arthroplasty with femoral calcar prosthesis and proximal femoral nail fixation(PFNA) in the treatment of elderly patients(≥80 years old) with unstable intertrochanteric fractures(Evans Ⅲ, Ⅳ).

Methods: From June 2016 to March 2018, 60 elderly patients with unstable intertrochanteric fractures treated with prosthetic replacement and PFNA were retrospectively analyzed. According to the surgical methods, they were divided into PFNA group and prosthesis group.

The microRNAs (miRNAs) play an important role in regulating myogenesis by targeting mRNA. However, the understanding of miRNAs in skeletal muscle development and diseases is unclear. In this study, we firstly performed the transcriptome profiling in differentiating C2C12 myoblast cells.

Transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) acts as a tumor promoter in advanced prostate cancer (PCa). We speculated that microRNAs (miRNAs) that are inhibited by TGF-β1 might exert anti-tumor effects. To assess this, we identified several miRNAs downregulated by TGF-β1 in PCa cell lines and selected miR-3691-3p for detailed analysis as a candidate anti-oncogene miRNA.

Background: Shenzhen is a rapidly growing city in China with a population of over 11 million. The Hong Kong University-Shenzhen Hospital (HKU-SZH) was established in 2012 as a new model of publicly funded health care in mainland China. The clinical oncology center of the HKU-SZH was launched in 2013 which pledged to provide integrated palliative care for advanced cancer patients.

The classification of the distinct group of mesenchymal neoplasms, first described as 'Xp11 translocation perivascular epithelioid cell tumor (PEComa)' and for which the term 'melanotic Xp11 neoplasm' or 'Xp11 neoplasm with melanocytic differentiation' has recently been proposed, remains challenging and controversial. We collected 27 melanotic Xp11 neoplasms, the largest series to date, for a comprehensive evaluation. Fourteen of the cases, together with eight alveolar soft part sarcomas (ASPS), nine conventional PEComas and a control group of seven normal tissues were submitted to RNA sequencing.

Sequential weak measurements of non-commuting observables are not only fundamentally interesting in terms of quantum measurement but also show potential in various applications. Previously reported methods, however, can only make limited sequential weak measurements experimentally. In this article, we propose the realization of sequential measurements of non-commuting Pauli observables and experimentally demonstrate for the first time the measurement of sequential weak values of three non-commuting Pauli observables using genuine single photons.

Objective: To compare the diagnostic performance of standard and ultrahigh b-value Diffusion-weighted Imaging (DWI) using volumetric histogram analysis in differentiating transition zone (TZ) cancer from benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Methods: 57 TZ cancer and 61 BPH patients received standard (1000 s/mm) and ultrahigh b-value (2000 s/mm) DWI. The diagnostic ability of ADC histogram parameters derived from two DWI for differentiating TZ cancer from BPH was determined by receiver operating characteristic curve.

We show that both single-component and two-component Bose-Einstein condensates' (BECs) ground states can be simulated by a deep convolutional neural network. We trained the neural network via inputting the parameters in the dimensionless Gross-Pitaevskii equation (GPE) and outputting the ground-state wave function. After the training, the neural network generates ground-state wave functions with high precision.
