Article Synopsis
  • Interleukin-24 (IL-24) is explored as a potential tumor suppressor that can induce cell death in various cancer types, particularly in liver cancer cells.
  • Researchers used a modified virus (rAAV) to deliver the IL-24 gene specifically to liver tumors in a mouse model designed to mimic recurrent and metastatic liver cancer.
  • The study found that IL-24 gene therapy significantly reduced tumor recurrence and metastasis in the mice, as indicated by fewer tumors and lower levels of a specific tumor marker in the blood, suggesting its effectiveness in inducing cancer cell death.

Aim: To explore a method to establish an animal model of ischemic type intrahepatic biliary lesion in rabbits.

Methods: Forty Japanese white rabbits of clean grade were divided randomly into four groups (10 rabbits per group) including sham operation (SO) group, and artery-bile obstruction (ABO)-1 h group, ABO-2 h group and ABO-3 h group. All the rabbits in this study underwent the same initial surgical procedure in which the liver was prepared as for graft removal during liver transplantation.

Background: The indocyanine green (ICG) clearance test (clearance rate (K) and retention rate at 15 minutes (R15)) is a sensitive indicator to evaluate liver function. The model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) score has emerged as a useful tool for estimating the mortality of patients awaiting liver transplantation and has recently been validated on patients with liver diseases of various etiologies and severity. In this study, we investigated the correlation between the ICG clearance test and MELD score of patients with liver cirrhosis.

Pancreatic pseudocysts (PPs) are collections of pancreatic secretions that are lined by fibrous tissues and may contain necrotic debris or blood. The interventions including percutaneous, endoscopic or surgical approaches are based on the size, location, symptoms and complications of a pseudocyst. With the availability of advanced imaging systems and cameras, better hemostatic equipments and excellent laparoscopic techniques, most pseudocysts can be found and managed by laparoscopy.

Background: Calcineurin inhibitor-related renal toxicity affects patient and graft survival in transplant recipients. This study aimed to determine whether sirolimus is effective and safe in treating renal insufficiency related to tacrolimus after liver transplantation.

Methods: Tacrolimus for primary immunosuppression was used in 16 patients after liver transplantation.

Objective: To investigate the expression of neurokinin-1 receptor (NK-1R) in the lung tissue, and the relationship between expression of NK-1R and lung injury in rats with acute necrotizing pancreatitis (ANP).

Methods: One hundred and twenty adult Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into ANP and control groups. Animals in group ANP were induced by the retrograde intraductal infusion of 5% sodium taurocholate (0.

Aim: To study the expression of neurokinin-1 receptor (NK-1R) and neurokinin-2 receptor (NK-2R) in distal ileum of acute necrotizing pancreatitis (ANP) and to evaluate the relationship between expression of these two receptors and intestinal mucosal damage.

Methods: A total of 130 adult Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into two groups: the rats in ANP group (n=80) were induced by the retrograde intraductal infusion of 30 g.L(-1) sodium taurocholate.
