Article Synopsis
  • Plants are increasingly being used as bioreactors for producing recombinant proteins, making them a popular area of research in Plant Biotechnology and Synthetic Biology.
  • Compared to other bioreactor types, plant bioreactors have better engineering potential, particularly for improving yield and quality through various subcellular accumulation strategies.
  • The review discusses methods for achieving effective protein accumulation in tobacco bioreactors and emphasizes the importance of selecting the right subcellular location for the target protein to enhance production results.

Members of the plant-specific WOX transcription factor family have been reported to play important roles in cell to cell communication as well as other physiological and developmental processes. In this study, ten members of the WOX transcription factor family were identified in Solanum lycopersicum with HMMER. Neighbor-joining phylogenetic tree, maximum-likelihood tree and Bayesian-inference tree were constructed and similar topologies were shown using the protein sequences of the homeodomain.
