Background: Breast cancer is the prevailing malignancy among women, exhibiting a discernible escalation in incidence within our nation; hormone receptor-positive (HR+) human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative (HER2-) breast cancer is the most common subtype. In this study, we aimed to search for a non-invasive, specific, blood-based biomarker for the early detection of luminal A breast cancer through proteomic studies.

Methods: To explore new potential plasma biomarkers, we applied data-independent acquisition (DIA), a technique combining liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry, to quantify breast cancer-associated plasma protein abundance from a small number of plasma samples in 10 patients with luminal A breast cancer, 10 patients with benign breast tumors, and 10 healthy controls.

Chironomidae is a cosmopolitan and species-rich family of insects, with many species serving as useful indicators of aquatic ecosystem health. In this study, we newly sequenced six species of Goetghebuer, 1922 (Chironomidae: Chironominae) by high-throughput sequencing technology. We analyzed characters of the mitochondrial genome, including the sequence length, nucleotide composition, and evolutionary rates of this genus.

The electroless nickel spent tank liquid (ENSTL), as a typical hazardous waste, contains a variety of refractory organic substances as well as heavy metals and inorganic salts. Generally, ENSTL is delegated for disposing by qualified hazardous waste disposal departments in China. However, the temporary storage, transportation, and higher entrusted disposal expenses increase the burden on enterprises producing the hazardous ENSTL.

Article Synopsis
  • Meigen, 1818 is a key bioindicator for monitoring freshwater ecosystems, but its mitochondrial genome had not been previously analyzed.
  • The study sequenced and analyzed the complete mitogenome, which is 16,215 bp long and contains various essential genes and a control region.
  • Phylogenomic analysis confirmed the monophyletic nature of the Tanypodinae subfamily and established strong relationships at the genus level within this group.

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is one of the major chronic complications of diabetes. Genetic polymorphism of Apolipoprotein E (ApoE) has been proposed to participating in DN. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the relationship between ApoE genetic polymorphism and the presence of DN in Chinese type 2 diabetic patients.

Unlabelled: OBJECTICE: To evaluate the application of high-throughput sequencing to sequence the FMS-like Tyrosine Kinase 3 internal tandem duplication (FLT3-ITD) in de novo acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients with lower allelic ratio FLT3-ITD mutation or more than one ITD, and to analyze the feature of ITD.

Methods: The genomic DNA of 23 AML patients with positive FLT3-ITD was amplified by PCR, capillary electrophoresis was used to detect the ITD mutation. Then, the FLT3 gene was amplified using primer with different barcode, and the product was analyzed by illumina Miseq, and the results were compared with UCSC database.

Introduction: With the shortage of donor organs for islet transplantation, insulin-producing cells have been generated from different types of stem cell. Human fetal pancreatic stem cells have a better self-renewal capacity than adult stem cells and can readily differentiate into pancreatic endocrine cells, making them a potential source for islets in diabetes treatment. In the present study, the functions of pancreatic islets derived from human fetal pancreatic progenitor cells were evaluated in vitro and in vivo.

The efficacy of gliquidone for the treatment of diabetic nephropathy was investigated by implanting micro-osmotic pumps containing gliquidone into the abdominal cavities of Goto-Kakizaki (GK) rats with diabetic nephropathy. Blood glucose, 24 h urinary protein, and 24 h urinary albumin levels were measured weekly. After 4 weeks of gliquidone therapy, pathological changes in the glomerular basement membrane (GBM) were examined using an electron microscope.

Five novel N-substituted demethylvancomycin derivatives were rationally designed and synthesized by using a structure-based approach. The in vitro antibacterial activities against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), gentamicin-resistant Enterococcus faecalis (GRE), methicillin-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae (MRS), and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecalis (VRE) were evaluated. One of the compounds, N-(6-phenylheptyl)demethylvancomycin (12 a), was found to exhibit more potent antibacterial activity than vancomycin and demethylvancomycin.

Microvasculopathy is the most serious and predictable threat to the health of diabetic patients, which often results in end-stage renal disease, blindness, and limb amputations. Up to the present, the underlying mechanisms have remained elusive. Here, it was found that the differential activations of PKC/PKA were involved in diabetic microvasculopathy in diabetic GK rats.
