The epididymal fat is required for the maintenance of normal spermatogenesis, and the lipectomy of epididymal fat at different postnatal age results in disrupted expression patterns of several testicular steroidogenic enzymes. The current research examined the effect of epididymal fat lipectomy at different postnatal ages on expression of cytochrome 5α-reductase I, cytochrome P450 aromatase, androgen receptor (AR), and estrogen receptors (ER) α and β in the mouse testis after 2 weeks of the lipectomy. The lipectomy of epididymal fat at 2 months of postnatal age resulted in significant increases of expression levels of cytochrome 5α-reductase I, cytochrome P450 aromatase, AR, and ER α and β.

Background: Spina bifida (SB) is a chronic condition requiring lifelong self-management, underscoring the need to establish a dedicated cohort for longitudinal monitoring of health outcomes. The purpose of this study was to describe the development and initial implementation of a single-center prospective cohort study of children with SB and their parents living in South Korea and to describe demographics, clinical outcomes, psychosocial characteristics, and family data for this cohort.

Methods: This cohort was established through expert panel formation, identification of health indicators based on the Life Course Model for Spina Bifida, creation of a cohort database system, and quality control planning.

Nocturnal enuresis (NE) is involuntary bedwetting during sleep, typically appearing in young children. Despite the potential benefits of the long-term home monitoring of NE patients for research and treatment enhancement, this area remains underexplored. To address this, we propose NEcare, an in-home monitoring system that utilizes wearable devices and machine learning techniques.

Purpose: The pathophysiology of penis extends to erectile dysfunction (ED) to conditions including sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and cancer. To date, there has been little research evaluating vascular drainage from the penis. We aimed to evaluate penile blood flow in vivo and analyze its possible relationship with the lymphatic maker.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: The Moutan cortex (MC), the root bark of Paeonia suffruticosa Anderws (Paeoniaceae), has been historically employed in traditional herbal medicine for addressing women's ailments by replenishing kidney Yin.

Aim Of The Study: We aimed to explore if paeonol, an active constituent of MC, could ameliorate neuropsychiatric symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, and cognitive impairments, associated with post-menopausal syndrome (PMS) in an ovariectomized (OVX) mouse model.

Materials And Methods: The experimental design comprised 6 groups, including a sham group, OVX group, paeonol administration groups (3, 10 or 30 mg/kg, p.

The epididymal fat is a type of gonadal adipose tissue, which is localized closely to the testis. Even though it has been suggested that the epididymal fat is necessary for maintenance of spermatogenesis in the testis, the influence of epididymal fat on expression of testicular steroidogenic enzymes has not been examined. In the present research, expressional changes of steroidogenic enzymes in the mouse testis after 2 weeks of the surgical partial lipectomy of epididymal fat at different postnatal ages were determined by real-time polymerase chain reaction analysis.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to compare heart rate variability in patients with spina bifida versus a control group during urodynamic studies to assess autonomic nervous system function.
  • Researchers recorded heart rate data during three periods: before bladder filling, during filling until the initial urge to void, and from then until voiding started, involving 11 spina bifida patients and 9 controls.
  • Results showed that spina bifida patients had lower heart rate variability and higher sympathetic activity compared to controls, indicating altered autonomic function during bladder filling.

Purpose: The Quality of Life Assessment in Spina bifida for Teenagers (QUALAS-T) is a tool used to evaluate health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in adolescents with spina bifida (SB). The purpose of this study was to translate the QUALAS-T into Korean and validate its Korean version (QUALAS-T-K).

Methods: Translation and validation processes were carried out in accordance with a specified protocol, including forward and back translation, a content validity study, and a main study.

Purpose: The da Vinci SP robotic system enables three double-jointed wristed instruments and a fully wristed three-dimensional camera to be placed through a single port. This study presents our experience with robot-assisted ureteral reconstruction using the SP system and reports its outcomes.

Materials And Methods: Between December 2018 and April 2022, a single surgeon performed robotic ureteral reconstruction using the SP system in 39 patients: 18 underwent pyeloplasty and 21 received ureteral reimplantation.

Background: Patients with 5-α-reductase type 2 deficiency (5αRD2) require androgen treatment for the growth of normal male external genitalia. Since limited research has been conducted on the effects of androgen treatment on height in individuals with 5αRD2, we investigated the effect of androgen treatment on bone age (BA) and the height status in children with 5αRD2.

Methods: Of the 19 participants who were followed up for an average of 10.

The phenotype of the 5α-reductase type 2 deficiency (5αRD2) by the gene mutation varies, and although there have been many attempts, the genotype-phenotype correlation still has not yet been adequately evaluated. Recently, the crystal structure of the 5α-reductase type 2 isozyme (SRD5A2) has been determined. Therefore, the present study retrospectively evaluated the genotype-phenotype correlation from a structural perspective in 19 Korean patients with 5αRD2.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study aimed to find risk factors for needing permanent clean intermittent catheterization (CIC) and urinary incontinence in patients with lipomyelomeningocele (LMMC), as well as to assess how LMMC impacts bladder function over time using a urodynamic score.
  • - Researchers analyzed health records of 120 patients who had neurosurgical repairs for LMMC between January 2012 and December 2016, tracking bladder function at various points before and after surgery.
  • - Key findings suggest that factors such as age at surgery and the type of LMMC are significant risks for needing permanent CIC; also, urinary retention and high urodynamic scores three months post-surgery are linked to ongoing incontinence issues.

Introduction: We investigated the long-term usage pattern and satisfaction of continent catheterizable channels (CCCs).

Methods: From 2005 to 2018, CCCs, including Mitrofanoff and antegrade continent enema (ACE) channels, were made in 67 patients (Mitrofanoff in 21 patients, ACE channels in 43 patients, and both in three patients) in our institution. An online survey was conducted for these patients in order to assess usage pattern, continent status, difficulty in usage, and patient satisfaction.

Purpose: In young patients with varicocele, preservation of the internal spermatic artery may be advantageous for catch-up growth, but it may also increase the likelihood of treatment failure. Intraoperative venography reduces the likelihood that unsealed veins will remain after varicocelectomy. We analyzed the characteristics of remnant veins visualized through intraoperative venography to investigate the cause of surgical failure in artery-sparing varicocelectomy (ASV).
