  • Gut microbiota dysbiosis from acute pancreatitis (AP) worsens pancreatic injury and inflammation, and faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) may help recover this balance and reduce damage.
  • In experiments with animal models of AP, FMT improved gut microbiota health and reduced the severity of AP by increasing levels of beneficial metabolites, particularly nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN).
  • NMN enhances pancreatic health by activating a protective pathway involving SIRT3 and PRDX5, suggesting that FMT and NMN could be promising therapeutic strategies for treating AP.

  • The study investigates the role of the NLRP3 inflammasome in diabetic mice experiencing stroke through a model of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury.
  • Diabetic mice treated with MCC950, an NLRP3 inhibitor, showed reduced neurological deficits and improved survival rates following a stroke compared to those who did not receive the treatment.
  • Increased levels of NLRP3, IL-1, and caspase-1 were observed in the ischemic area of diabetic mice, but pre-treatment with MCC950 significantly lowered these levels, suggesting that NLRP3 inflammasome plays a critical role in the relationship between diabetes and stroke.

Article Synopsis
  • - Linc-pint, a long noncoding RNA, is found to be involved in regulating tumor cell growth in pancreatic cancer (PCa) patients, with its expression levels assessed through qRT-PCR and RNA FISH techniques.
  • - The study shows that Linc-pint levels are lower in the plasma of PCa patients compared to healthy individuals, suggesting it may be a more sensitive biomarker for detecting PCa than the traditional CA19-9 marker.
  • - Additionally, decreased Linc-pint levels in both plasma and tumor tissues are linked to tumor recurrence and poor prognosis, indicating its potential role as a minimally invasive biomarker for early detection and prognosis in PCa patients.

Erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP), an autosomal dominant disease, is caused by partial deficiency of ferrochelatase (FECH), which catalyzes the terminal step of heme biosynthesis because of loss-of-function mutations in the FECH gene. To date, only a few cases have been described in Asia. In this study, we describe the clinical features of two Chinese patients with EPP, with diagnosis confirmed by the increase of free protoporphyrin in erythrocytes, detection of plasma fluorescence peak at 630-634 nm, and analysis of FECH gene mutations.

Recently, pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) has emerged as one of the most aggressive malignant tumors with the worst prognosis. Previous studies have demonstrated that long noncoding RNA metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1) is increased in pancreatic cancer and is identified as a diagnostic biomarker. Nonetheless, the molecular mechanism of elevated MALAT1 levels and tumor aggressiveness remains unknown.
