The purpose of this study was to evaluate appropriate surgical approaches and long-term survival after surgery for esophageal cancer associated with MPCs.
Methods: Data from 622 patients who underwent surgery for primary esophageal cancer between 1989 and 2008 were reviewed retrospectively to identify the presence of MPCs.
The photoreduction of water-soluble cationic manganese(III) meso-tetrakis(1-methylpyridium-4-yl)porphyrin (Mn(III)(TMPyP)(4+)) bound to a synthetic polynucleotide, either poly[d(A-T)2] or poly[d(G-C)2], was examined by conventional absorption and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy, transient absorption, and transient Raman spectroscopy. Upon binding, Mn(III)(TMPyP)(4+) produced a positive CD signal for both polynucleotides, suggesting external binding. In the poly[d(A-T)2]-Mn(III)(TMPyP)(4+) adduct case, an interaction between the bound porphyrin was suggested.

Materials And Methods: From January 1996 to January 2012, 12 patients with gastric conduit stricture after esophagectomy underwent fluoroscopic balloon dilation, temporary stent placement, or both. Stent placement was indicated in patients who had gastro-respiratory fistulas or recurrent symptoms within 2 weeks of balloon dilation.

Objective: To investigate the influence of the timing of stent removal on the outcome of temporary stent placement with concurrent chemoradiation therapy in patients with unresectable oesophageal carcinoma.
Methods: Retrospective analysis was performed on 52 patients undergoing temporary stent placement. Stents were electively removed within 4 weeks in 15 patients (group A), 4-6 weeks in 17 patients (group B) and after 6 weeks in 20 patients (group C).
Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the clinical characteristics, prognosis, and risk factors of patients in whom cervical lymph node cancer recurred after esophageal cancer surgery with 2-field lymph node dissection.
Methods: Between 2000 and 2010, 471 consecutive patients who had undergone esophagectomy with 2-field lymph node dissection for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma were enrolled in this study.
Results: Recurrence was seen in 96 patients.
Ischemic heart diseases caused by insufficient oxygen supply to the cardiac muscle require pharmaceutical agents for the prevention of the progress and recurrence. Metallothionein (MT) has a potential as a protein therapeutic for the treatment of this disease due to its anti-oxidative effects under stressful conditions. In this study, we hypothesized that combined delivery of TAT-HSP27 (HSP27 fused with transcriptional activator) and VEGF could enhance the therapeutic efficacy in an ischemic mouse model, and that sequential release could be critical in therapeutic angiogenesis. Selective and potent ROS1 kinase inhibitors have recently been developed and oncogenic rearrangement of ROS1 in NSCLC identified.
Methods: We performed immunohistochemical evaluation of expression of ROS1 kinase and its downstream molecules in 399 NSCLC cases.
We have synthesized photocrosslinkable benzophenone copolymer, Poly(St-co-MBz), and fabricated cell-repellent patterns of Poly(St-co-MBz) on covalently bound poly-D-lysine (PDL) layer via the photocrosslinking. We have successfully obtained fine grid line pattern with line width of 3 μm and fine neurite, presumably axon, patterns with excellent pattern fidelity. We found that benzophenone unit can be crosslinked under the exposure of UV (with the intensity of ∼77 mW/cm² at 280 nm and ∼60 mW/cm² at 365 nm) without photo-oxidative damage to PDL, poly-L-lysine, and polyethyleneimine.

Materials And Methods: From January 1996 to June 2011, a total of 309 sessions of balloon dilation were performed in 155 patients with benign anastomotic strictures after esophagectomy. Long-term clinical effectiveness was assessed using the following variables: technical and clinical success, complications, and patency rates.
