Borohydride crossover in anion exchange membrane (AEM) based direct borohydride fuel cells (DBFCs) impairs their performance and induces cathode catalyst poisoning. This study evaluates three non-precious metal catalysts, namely LaMnCoO (LMCO) perovskite, MnCoO (MCS) spinel, and Fe-N-C, for their application as cathode catalysts in DBFCs. The rotating disk electrode (RDE) testing shows significant borohydride tolerance of MCS.

With the continuous development of physical education reform, the defects and deficiencies of physical education teaching in colleges and universities are increasingly exposed. The reform of the original physical education teaching thought, education system, teaching mode, and method has achieved little. At present, the research on the prediction of physical education teaching achievements is mainly aimed at the prediction of athletes and physical education teaching achievements or the prediction of the past data of college students.

Tokamak diagnostic window glass is an indispensable optical medium in fusion research. The transmittance of the device affects the optical performance and accuracy of the diagnostic system. Especially, the window glass serves as the entrance of the light source while performing the sealing function for the active diagnosis method represented by Thomson scattering diagnostics.

Distal radius fracture is a common injury, especially in elderly people, and internal fixation with volar locking plate (VLP) is becoming an increasingly popular technique for the management of displaced and/or unstable distal radius fractures. One of the most common complications of this treatment is the flexor tendon rupture, mostly of the flexor pollicis longus (FPL). While the rupture of flexor digitorum tendons to the index (FDI) mostly occurs concomitantly with the rupture of FPL after the treatment using volar plating for distal radial fracture, sole rupture of the FDI without FPL rupture is very rare.

Since licensing in 2006, there has been poor uptake of the HPV vaccine among the targeted population in the South East Asia Region (SEAR) and Western Pacific Region (WPR). A systematic review was conducted to identify the studies exploring the relationship between factors and intention for HPV vaccination among women in SEAR and WPR countries. Nineteen studies were identified as suitable for qualitative synthesis, and three as suitable for meta-analysis.

Nanoparticles designed for biomedical applications are often coated with polymers containing reactive functional groups, such as -COOH and -NH, to conjugate targeting ligands or drugs. However, introducing highly charged surfaces promotes binding of the nanoparticles to biomolecules in biological systems through ionic interactions, causing the nanoparticles to aggregate in biological environments and consequently undergo strong non-specific binding to off-target cells and tissues. Developing a unique polymer with neutral surfaces that can be further functionalized directly would be critical to develop suitable nanomaterials for nanomedicine.

Objective: To study the macroscopic, microscopic identification and chemical components of Cyperus rotundus growing in Wen-River area.

Methods: The features of different parts of Cyperus rotundus were described by material morphology and microscopic identification, the chemical components of aerial part and rhizome of Cyperus rotundus were studied by chemical experiment and GC-MS analysis.

Results: Summarized the transverse section structure of rhizome, stem and leaf of Cyperus rotundus, the chemical components of aerial part and the components and relative content of volatile oil in rhizome were determined.

We report and demonstrate biomedical applications of a new technique--'living' PEGylation--that allows control of the density and composition of heterobifunctional PEG (HS-PEG-R; thiol-terminated poly(ethylene glycol)) on gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). We first establish 'living' PEGylation by incubating HS-PEG₅₀₀₀-COOH with AuNPs (∼20 nm) at increasing molar ratios from zero to 2000. This causes the hydrodynamic layer thickness to differentially increase up to 26 nm.

The title compound, [Ni(C(2)O(4))(C(5)H(5)N)(2)](n), was synthesized under hydro-(solvo)thermal conditions. The Ni(II) atom, lying on a twofold rotation axis, has an octa-hedral coordination geometry involving two N atoms from two pyridine ligands and four O atoms from two oxalate ligands. The Ni atoms are connected by the tetra-dentate bridging oxalate ligands into a one-dimensional zigzag chain.

Effects of carbon concentration and carbon to nitrogen (C:N) ratio on six biocontrol fungal strains are reported in this paper. All fungal strains had extensive growth on the media supplemented with 6-12 gl(-1) carbon and C:N ratios from 10:1 to 80:1, and differed in nutrient requirements for sporulation. Except for the two strains of Paecilomyces lilacinus, all selected fungi attained the highest spore yields at a C:N ratio of 160:1 when the carbon concentration was 12 gl(-1) for Metarhizium anisopliae SQZ-1-21, 6 gl(-1) for M.

In axotomized adult neurons, a process of axonal regrowth and re-establishment of the neuronal function has to be activated. Developmentally regulated factors may be reactivated during neuronal regeneration. Here we identify a gene, previously designated P311, that is up-regulated in the axotomized facial motoneurons.

Vesicle-associated membrane proteins (VAMPs) are involved in synaptic vesicle recycling and exocytosis in neurons. Here we report the changes in mRNA expression for VAMPs (VAMP1, -2 and -3) in the facial motor nucleus of adult rats following axotomy by in situ hybridization. Signals for VAMP2 and -3 mRNAs in the facial nucleus were increased from 3 to 28 days after axotomy.

When the axon of a motoneuron is transected, axonal regrowth occurs to reconnect it to the correct target. During the regeneration period, a large amount of new membrane synthesis is required for the axons to extend. Choline is an important metabolite in all cells because of the major contribution of phosphatidylcholine and sphingomyelin to the production of membranes.
