Background: A retrospective observational study was conducted at 3 health care organizations to identify clinical gaps in care for patients with stage 3 or 4 chronic kidney disease (CKD), and financial opportunity from U.S. risk adjustment payment systems.

This study aims to examine the cytologic characteristics of thyroid fine-needle aspiration (FNA) smears with oncocytes classified as atypia of undetermined significance (AUS) with particular molecular patterns that can aid in determining a more conclusive Bethesda category upfront thus decreasing unnecessary testing and associated costs.
Materials And Methods: Our pathology database was searched for thyroid FNAs with AUS for oncocyte predominance from 2019 to 2022.
Introduction: Solid pseudopapillary neoplasm (SPN) is a tumor of young females with gain-of-function mutation in catenin beta 1 gene involved in Wnt signal transduction pathway. Beta-catenin immunohistochemistry (IHC) is used to diagnose SPN. Lymphoid enhancer-binding factor 1 (LEF-1) has been recognized in the transactivation of Wnt pathway.

Importance: The likelihood that an oral cavity lesion harbors occult invasive disease after biopsy demonstrating carcinoma in situ (CIS) is unknown. While de-escalated treatment strategies may be appealing in the setting of CIS, knowing whether occult invasive disease may be present and its association with survival outcomes would lead to more informed management decisions.
Objective: To evaluate rate of occult invasive disease and clinical outcomes in patients with oral cavity CIS.
Background: Intracranial solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs), formerly hemangiopericytomas (HPCs), are rare, aggressive dural-based mesenchymal tumors. While adjuvant radiation therapy has been suggested to improve local tumor control (LTC), especially after subtotal resection, the role of postoperative stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and the optimal SRS dosing strategy remain poorly defined.
Methods: PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science were systematically searched according to PRISMA guidelines for studies describing postoperative SRS for intracranial SFTs.
Accurate diagnosis of von Willebrand disease (VWD) depends on the quality, precision, and variability of the laboratory assays. The North American Specialized Coagulation Laboratory Association (NASCOLA) is a provider of external quality assessment (EQA) for approximately 60 specialized coagulation laboratories in North America. In this report, NASCOLA EQA data from 2010 to 2021 are reviewed for trends in methodology and precision among various assays.

It's imperative to identify risk factors associated with disease progression and prognosis. Immune responses played an important role in the host's defense against the virus.

Background: Equipoise exists regarding sickle cell disease (SCD) as a risk factor for COVID-19 disease severity and variables that increase risk of COVID-19 severity in SCD. Given our health system's large SCD patient catchment, we analyzed our own experience in this regard.
Study Methods: Retrospective analysis of the clinical course and factors associated with need for hospitalization and ICU admission of SCD patients diagnosed with COVID-19 through the Northwell Health system from March 1 to Dec 31, 2020.
Background: Laboratory diagnosis of von Willebrand Disease (VWD) is complex. Reliance on laboratory testing can be problematic as different VWD screening panels, assays and methodologies can produce analytic variability in test results.
Objectives: To compare the degree of imprecision among the VWD assays and within the platelet binding activity (PBA) assays, to determine the consensus among the VWD assays for correct classification of sample results, and to determine consensus among laboratories' von Willebrand factor (VWF) multimer interpretations and final interpretations of the VWD panels.
Background: The Spectra Optia allows automated performance of red blood cell reduction and isovolemic hemodilution (IHD) prior to standard red cell exchange (RCE), and is primarily intended for patients with sickle cell disease (SCD) undergoing chronic RCE. Data on the safety of inducing transient further anemia and the benefits of IHD-RCE is limited and occasionally contradictory.
Study Design And Methods: In this retrospective crossover analysis of six patients with SCD who underwent chronic exchange with standard RCE (Cobe Spectra) followed by IHD-RCE (Spectra Optia), we compared safety and benefit outcomes with IHD-RCE vs standard RCE.
The use of social media at academic conferences is expanding, and platforms such as Twitter are used to share meeting content with the world. Pathology conferences are no exception, and recently, pathology organizations have promoted social media as a way to enhance meeting exposure. A social media committee was formed ad hoc to implement strategies to enhance social media involvement and coverage at the 2018 and 2019 annual meetings of the Association of Pathology Chairs.

Methods: Northwell Health Laboratories tested 46 793 persons for SARS-CoV-2 from 4 March through 10 April.
Participants at academic conferences frequently use social media to disseminate educational content learned while at the meeting. Although most agree that this activity is harmless, some have expressed concern regarding the accuracy of the shared content and whether it truly reflects the intent and message of the speaker. As part of the goals of the APC 2018 social media committee to promote excellence through social media, a study was conducted to measure the perceived accuracy of tweets that represented an opinion or statement from a speaker and was shared during the annual meeting.

In GI-NET, a spectrum of histological and molecular parameters exists to predict prognosis and survival. Immunohistochemistry for Ki67, a nuclear antigen that is present in all but the G0 phase of the cell cycle with specificity for proliferating cells, can be used to determine a tumors proliferation index.

However, the analysis of ordering patterns can be challenging. We propose a utilization index (UI) as a means to quantify utilization patterns for individual providers and demonstrate the use of heatmaps to identify opportunities for improvement.

Over 10,000 patients receive PD in the United States [United States Renal Data System: 2015]. PD has superior outcomes compared to hemodialysis in the first 2 years of ESRD [Sinnakirouchenan and Holley: Adv Chronic Kidney Dis 2011;18: 428-432].
