Snow mountain garlic is traditionally eaten by Himalayan locals for its medicinal properties. Although different species of the genus are known to have other biological effects, such as antiplatelet and antithrombotic activities, little is known about the anticoagulant effect of Snow mountain garlic, a member of the genus . Therefore, the present study examined the anticoagulant effect of the aqueous extract, the lyophilized aqueous extract, and the isoflavone extract from the lyophilized aqueous extract of Snow mountain garlic in samples from 50 human blood donors.

Hemorheology and microcirculation alterations are caused by erythrocyte size and shape (ESS) modifications. People´s diets can alter erythrocyte functions and membrane fluidity by changing cell membrane components. The aim was to identify differences in ESS obtained by scanning electron (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) in people with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and assess their relationship with dietary patterns.

Purpose: Exosomes are extracellular membrane vesicles. Their content directly reflects the metabolic state of the cells from which they originate and play an important role in cellular functions and pathological states, for example, cancer. The aim was to establish the effect of exosomes from patients diagnosed with CIN1 (grade one cervical intraepithelial neoplasia) on the viability of HeLa cells in culture.

The remarkable properties of garlic L. have been described, but little is known about Snow mountain garlic. Understanding general aspects of this garlic composition, including the presence of phenolics, will establish its possible use for health or infer which compounds can contribute to improving it.

Industrial effluents from chromium-based products lead to chromium pollution in the environment. Several technologies have been employed for the removal of chromium (Cr) from the environment, including adsorption, ion-exchange, bioremediation, etc. In this study, we isolated a Cr (VI)-resistant fungus, from contaminated soil, which could reduce chromium.

Aims: To evaluate the in vitro effect of different glucose concentrations and the time series in erythrocyte cell viability and morphology parameters.

Methods: Different glucose concentrations were assessed, from a normal physiological glucose concentration (5 mM) to a diabetes scenario (100 mM). Cell viability was obtained by the MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide) assay.

The drying of fruit juices has advantages such as easy handling of powders, reduction in volume, and preservation of the characteristics of the fruit. Thus, in this work, the effect of the spray drying conditions of strawberry juice (SJ) with maltodextrin (MX) as a carrying agent on the microencapsulation of bioactive compounds and physicochemical properties was studied. The content of phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity showed higher values at low concentrations of MX, while the effect of drying temperature was negligible.

The study aim was to assess the application of atomic force microscopy (AFM) to evaluate erythrocyte morphology in early stages of type 2 diabetes mellitus, and the association with biochemical, anthropometric, diet, and physical activity indicators. This was a pilot cross-sectional study with four groups: healthy individuals, people with prediabetes (PDG), metabolic syndrome (MSG), and diabetes mellitus group (DMG). Blood samples were obtained to assess the erythrocyte morphology and biochemical parameters.

Article Synopsis
  • Staphylococcus aureus is a common and dangerous pathogen with high mortality rates and rapid antibiotic resistance, yet there is limited epidemiological research in Mexico.* -
  • The study aimed to investigate the molecular epidemiology and clonal origin of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains in patients at a specific hospital over a six-month period.* -
  • Findings revealed a MRSA prevalence of 25.7%, with a majority (76%) being the Spa type t895, and indicated that the regional MRSA prevalence has remained stable over the past decade.*

Aim: Cervical cancer (CC) is considered as a major public health problem; this disease affects mainly vulnerable women in poverty, causing a negative effect on a country's workforce.

Objective: To determine the histopathological diagnosis variation after examining three more levels of cervical biopsy paraffin blocks from patients with HPVI, CIN and CC.

Materials And Methods: A quantitative, retrospective correlational study was performed in a hospital with a second level of health care.

Aim: To evaluate the erythrocyte morphology in people with prediabetes, T2DM and healthy subjects in a Mexican population and its association with biochemical parameters.

Methods: Cross-sectional study consisted of three groups: healthy (HG), people with prediabetes (PG) and with T2DM (DMG). A blood sample was obtained from all participants to assess the erythrocyte morphology, and levels of HbA1c, glucose and lipid profile.

Objective: To develop a predictive dynamic model to generate and analyse the future status of the incidence rate of ischaemic heart disease in a population of 25 years and over in Mexico, according to the variation in time of some risk factors.

Method: Retrospective ecological study performed during the period 2013-2015, in San Luis Potosí City, Mexico. Secondary databases that corresponded to the years 2000, 2005, and 2010, were used along with official indicators of the 58 municipalities of the state of San Luis Potosí.

Previous studies from this laboratory have dealt with the purification and biochemical characterization of ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) from Entamoeba histolytica. Enzyme compartmentalization has been described as a major mechanism in the regulation of polyamine metabolism. However, the subcellular location of ODC in the human parasite has remained unresolved.

Ornithine decarboxylase, a rate-limiting enzyme in polyamine biosynthesis in eukaryotes, was stabilized and purified from trophozoites of the parasite protozoan E. histolytica. Analytical electrophoresis revealed the presence in the purified preparations of a major polypeptide of 45 kDa and barely detectable amounts of two other proteins of 70 and 120 kDa.
