Compared with conventional electrochemical supercapacitors and lithium-ion batteries, the novel amorphous cellulose nanofibre (ACF) supercapacitor demonstrates superior electric storage capacity with a high-power density, owing to its fast-charging capability and high-voltage performance. This study unveils introduces an ACF supercapacitor characterised by a substantial energy density. This is achieved by integrating a singular layer of pseudo-solid water molecules (electrical resistivity of 1.

Bio-semiconductors are expected to be similar to organic semiconductors; however, they have not been utilized in application yet. In this study, we show the origin of electron appearance, N- and S-type negative resistances, rectification, and switching effects of semiconductors with energy storage capacities of up to 418.5 mJ/m using granulated amorphous kenaf cellulose particles (AKCPs).

The performance of electric double-layer capacitors and lithium-ion batteries deteriorates with increasing humidity. The desirable effect of bound water on the energy-storage properties of physically dry cellulose nanofiber (Na-ACF) supercapacitors with sodium (Na) carboxylate radicals was investigated using infrared and near-infrared spectroscopy, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, alternating current impedance analyses, and first-principles calculations. The storage capacity decreased gradually upon heating to 423 K and reached zero upon exceeding 483 K, accompanied by increasing electrical resistance, forming a distorted semicircle in Nyquist diagram and drawing the phase angle to zero in Bode diagram.

There has been no research conducted thus far on the semiconducting behaviour of biomaterials. In this study, we present an n-type semiconducting biomaterial composed of amorphous kenaf cellulose fibre (AKCF) paper with a voltage-controlled N-type negative resistance. The AKCF generates an alternating-current wave with a frequency of 40.

The electric charge storage properties of amorphous cellulose nanofiber (ACF) supercapacitors with different metal carboxylate radicals (COOM; M: Na(I), Ca(II), Al(III)) was investigated in terms of charging/discharging behaviours, alternating current impedance analysis, and plane-wave-based first-principles density functional calculations. Na-ACF exhibited a higher storage effect than Ca- and Al-ACFs. The charge storage mechanism for an Na-ACF supercapacitor was proposed using an electric double layer model in a CHONa electrolyte with an electrical resistivity of 6.

Quantum cascade laser (QCL) is a very attractive seed source for a multikilowatt pulsed CO2 lasers applied for driving extreme ultraviolet emitting plasmas. In this Letter, we investigate output beam properties of a QCL designed to address P18 and P20 lines of 10.6 micron band of CO2 molecule.

In this Letter, we investigate, for the first time to our knowledge, the spectral properties of a quantum-cascade laser (QCL) from a point of view of a new application as a laser seeder for a nanosecond-pulse high-repetition frequency CO(2) laser operating at 10.6 μm wavelength. The motivation for this work is a renewed interest in such a pulse format and wavelength driven by a development of extreme UV (EUV) laser-produced-plasma (LPP) sources.

Loeys-Dietz Syndrome (LDS) is an autosomal dominant aortic aneurysm syndrome with multisystem involvement, caused by heterozygous mutations of transforming growth factor beta receptor type 1 (TGFBR1) or type 2 (TGFBR2) genes. We report on a neonate with the disorder caused by a known TGFBR2 mutation, who developed neonatal-onset progressive dilation of the aortic valve and aneurysms of the aortic root and main pulmonary artery (PA) associated with a large left-to-right shunt via a ventricular septal defect (VSD) and an atrial septal defect. He also had skeletal features (flexion contractures of the fingers, talipes equinovarus, a cleft palate, and joint laxity), mild facial dysmorphisms, and developmental delay.

We describe a 10-month-old boy with 22q13 deletion syndrome. Chromosomal analysis showed a partial duplication of 22p11.2-pter and a terminal deletion of 22q13.

Corticosteroids have been used only in the treatment of special epileptic syndromes or epileptic encephalopathies, such as infantile spasms. We report an antiepileptic effect of corticosteroids that were used for treatment of nephropathy in a monozygotic twin child with idiopathic localization-related epilepsy (I-LRE). The patient and her monozygotic twin sister exhibited repeated partial seizures at two years of age and electroencephalogram (EEG) showed focal spikes in the occipital area and, on other occasions, the centro-parietal areas.

Objectives: To assess hippocampal volumes (HV) and signal changes on diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) within 5 days of prolonged febrile seizures (PFS) and compare them with the PFS duration and EEG.

Methods: We studied 12 children (mean age: 32 +/- 21 months, range 10 months-5 years) within 5 days of a first episode of PFS (a seizure or series of seizures lasting for 30 min or longer, without return of consciousness between the seizures). The HV measurements were carried out using high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging and signal intensity abnormalities were evaluated visually on DWI.

"Benign convulsions with mild gastroenteritis (CwG)" is recognized as a benign situation-related seizure. Neuroimaging studies usually do not reveal any abnormalities. We report MRI diffusion-weighted image (DWI) findings of two patients who were clinically diagnosed with CwG.

A purified acid protease from a true thermophilic fungus, Penicillium duponti K1014, was most active at pH 2.5 for milk casein and at pH 3.0 for hemoglobin.

A thermophilic fungus, K1014, newly derived from a compost was selected on the basis of protease productivity as the only one of 81 isolates to produce high levels of acid protease. The fungus was named Penicillium duponti K1014 based on taxonomical studies. It grew in the temperature range of 28 to 58 C, and the optimum was 45 to 50 C.
