This study aimed to examine minimodeling-based bone formation between the epiphyses and metaphyses of the long bones of eldecalcitol (ELD)-administered ovariectomized rats. Sixteen-week-old female rats were divided into four groups: sham-operated rats receiving vehicle (Sham group), ovariectomized (OVX) rats receiving vehicle (Vehicle group), or ELDs (30 or 90 ng/kg BW, respectively; ELD30 and ELD90 groups). ELD administration increased bone volume and trabecular thickness, reducing the number of osteoclasts in both the epiphyses and metaphyses of OVX rats.

SAYSVFN domain-containing protein 1 (SAYSD1) is an evolutionarily conserved membrane protein that has recently been identified as a ubiquitin-fold modifier 1 (UFM1)-conjugated ribosome-recognition protein that plays a critical role in translocation-associated quality control (TAQC). However, its expression and roles in mammals in vivo remain largely unknown. We found that SAYSD1 is predominantly expressed in round and elongating spermatids and localizes in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) of mouse testes, but not in differentiated spermatozoa.

Methods And Results: We directly compared the efficiency of producing rat blastocysts with homozygous mutations of the Foxn1 locus by pronuclear injection of Cas9 in the form of protein, mRNA, or plasmid DNA. For highly efficient production of rat blastocysts with homozygous Foxn1 mutations, pronuclear injection of Cas9 protein at 60 ng/µl was likely optimal.

Purpose: Although real-time imaging of the high-activity iridium-192 (Ir-192) source position during high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy using a high-energy gamma camera system is a promising approach, the energy window was not optimized for spatial resolution or scatter fraction.

Methods: By using a list-mode data-acquisition system that can acquire energy information of a cerium-doped yttrium aluminum perovskite (YA1O: YAP(Ce)) gamma camera, we tried to optimize the energy window's setting to improve the spatial resolution and reduce scatter fraction.

Results: The spatial resolution was highest for the central energy of the window at ∼300 keV.

Objective: Dose distribution measurements of high-energy X-rays from medical linear accelerators (LINAC) in water are important for quality control (QC) of the system. Although Cherenkov-light imaging is a useful method for measuring the high-energy X-ray dose distribution, depth profiles have an underestimated dose at increased depths due to the angular dependency of the Cherenkov light generated in water. In this study, we use a linear polarizer to separate the majority of polarized components from the majority of unpolarized components of Cherenkov-light images in water and then use this information to correct for angular dependencies.

Background: Neuropathic pain in neuroimmunological disorders refers to pain caused by a lesion or disease of the somatosensory system such as multiple sclerosis (MS) and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD). MS and NMOSD are autoimmune disorders of the central nervous system, and ≥ 50% of patients with these disorders experience chronic neuropathic pain. The currently available medications for the management of neuropathic pain have limited effectiveness in patients with MS and NMOSD, and there is an unmet medical need to identify novel therapies for the management of chronic neuropathic pain in these patients.
