Introduction: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (Type 2 DM) constitutes a major public health problem. Zinc (Zn), a critical micronutrient in the human body, serves as a potent antioxidant, and is closely linked to the development and progression of Type 2 DM. However, limited evidence explored the speculated putative mechanism of Zn repletion improving insulin sensitivity and severity in patients with Type 2 DM.

Background: Behcet's disease (BD) has a heterogeneous and unpredictable phenotype that differs in various geographical areas.

Objective: To describe the clinical phenotype & outcome of Behcet's disease(BD) from Karnataka, India and compare them with large cohorts from endemic regions.

Methods: Databases of practising rheumatologists from Karnataka were reviewed to retrieve clinical characteristics, course of illness, prescribing information and outcome at last follow-up of patients clinically diagnosed as BD.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates sleep quality among 86 fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) patients in urban Bangalore, finding that 91% had poor sleep quality, as measured by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI).
  • - Results show that sleep quality correlates with factors like fibromyalgia severity, duration of the condition, and psychological issues such as pain, depression, and anxiety.
  • - The findings suggest that sleep disturbances are common in FMS patients, particularly worsening in females, and highlight the need for future research to identify what contributes to poor sleep in this population.

Background: Sleep disturbance is one of the key symptoms of fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS), which negatively affects the participants' quality of life. Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle manual technique found to have significant effects on pain and function in chronic pain participants. However, limited evidence exists on its effectiveness on sleep quality in FMS participants.

Introduction: Patients with SLE (systemic lupus erythematosus) have a higher risk of infection due to dysregulated immune system as well as long-term use of immunosuppressants (IS). This could influence the risk of COVID-19 and its outcome.

Methods: We conducted a longitudinal prospective study across 15 rheumatology centres during the first wave of the pandemic to understand the risk factors contributing to COVID-19 in SLE patients.

Background: We conducted this study to identify the influence of prolonged use of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ), glucocorticoids and other immunosuppressants (IS) on occurrence and outcome of COVID-19 in patients with autoimmune rheumatic diseases (AIRDs).

Methods: This was a prospective, multicenter, non-interventional longitudinal study across 15 specialist rheumatology centers. Consecutive AIRD patients on treatment with immunosuppressants were recruited and followed up longitudinally to assess parameters contributing to development of COVID-19 and its outcome.

Background And Purpose: There is limited evidence on the effects of myofascial release on fibromyalgia symptoms. This review aims to update the evidence on the effectiveness of myofascial release on pain, sleep, and quality of life in patients with fibromyalgia syndrome.

Methods: The review was prepared following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines.

Article Synopsis
  • Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a serious but uncommon complication of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), particularly studied in an Indian population.
  • The study analyzed data from 66 SLE patients with AP, finding that most were young women, with AP often occurring during active lupus and linked to various complications.
  • The overall mortality rate was 17%, with shock being the strongest predictor of death among those with severe AP.

Article Synopsis
  • A systematic review was conducted to assess therapeutic interventions and prognostic factors in polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR), analyzing studies published until April 2014.
  • The review identified that a higher initial dosage of prednisone may reduce relapse rates, but is linked to more side effects, and found that intramuscular methylprednisolone could be as effective as oral glucocorticoids with lower side effects.
  • Prognostic indicators such as female sex, elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), and peripheral arthritis were associated with a higher relapse risk and longer treatment duration, although the evidence supporting these factors varied in quality.

Article Synopsis
  • The paper talks about guidelines for treating polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR), a type of illness that causes pain and stiffness, which are not consistent worldwide.
  • It describes recommendations made in 2015 by two important groups, EULAR and ACR, based on thorough research and expert opinions on how to manage PMR.
  • The guidelines include advice on medical tests, treatments like glucocorticoids, and when to refer patients to specialists, helping doctors provide the best care for PMR patients.

Article Synopsis
  • There are no global guidelines yet for treating polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR), which makes treatment different in various places.
  • This paper shares recommendations from a 2015 meeting by experts in Europe and America to help doctors manage PMR better.
  • They created eight main principles and nine specific tips that cover patient care, types of treatments, and recommendations for doctors to follow to help patients with PMR.

One of the greatest challenges to Landau's Fermi liquid theory--the standard theory of metals--is presented by complex materials with strong electronic correlations. In these materials, non-Fermi liquid transport and thermodynamic properties are often explained by the presence of a continuous quantum phase transition that happens at a quantum critical point (QCP). A QCP can be revealed by applying pressure, magnetic field, or changing the chemical composition.

Juvenile arthritis damage index (JADI) consists of two parts which measure articular (JADI-A) and extra-articular (JADI-E) damage in patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). It does not include assessment of cardiac dysfunction and joint areas commonly affected in enthesitis-related arthritis (ERA) category of JIA. We have tried to study if modification of JADI will improve its performance in JIA-ERA.

Objective: Membrane-bound receptor for advanced glycation endproducts (mRAGE) is overexpressed in response to increasing concentrations of its ligand (e.g., S100A12) and triggers an inflammatory immune response.

Objective: enthesitis-related arthritis subtype of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA-ERA) clinically resembles reactive arthritis (ReA). In patients with ReA the immune response is targeted at the outer membrane protein (OMP) of Salmonella typhimurium. We studied the immune response in JIA-ERA to S.

Histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis or Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD) is a rare, benign and self-limiting disorder that characteristically presents with fever and cervical lymphadenopathy. Articular manifestations in the form of arthralgias are common but frank arthritis is distinctly rare and dactylitis has not been reported yet. Herein, we describe a young boy who presented with arthritis and dactylitis as the initial manifestation of KFD.
