Cube-shaped samarium orthovanadate (SmVO) nanoparticles were interconnected with a graphene oxide sheet (GOS) using a simple and eco-friendly method to generate a SmVO@GOS nanocomposite. SmVO was characterized using various spectroscopic and microscopic techniques, which confirmed the wrapping of GOS around the SmVO nanoparticles. SmVO@GOS was then used to modify a glassy carbon electrode (GCE), which was evaluated for its electrochemical performance toward the assay of sulfasalazine (SSZ), an antibiotic drug.

Detection of anticancer drug (doxorubicin) using an electrochemical sensor is developed based on a transition metal vanadate's related carbon composite material. Previous studies on the large-scale glycomics of more than 3500 human serum samples revealed that the serum glycoproteins of cancer patients often have more dominant and specific glycoforms, namely, branched tri- and tetra-antennary N-glycans, most cancer patient groups than normal control groups. We herein established an efficient synthetic protocol of glycopeptides having highly complicated N-glycan structures that may be generated by direct tryptic digestion of serum glycoproteins. A preliminary selected reaction monitoring (SRM) assay using the synthetic model glycopeptide , Ser-Val-Gln-Glu-Ile-Gln-Ala-Thr-Phe-Phe-Tyr-Phe-Thr-Pro-Asn-Lys-Thr-Glu-Asp-Thr-Ile-Phe-Leu-Arg having an asialo tri-antennary N-glycan at the Asn54 residue as a designated calibration standard allowed for the rapid and absolute quantitation of the tryptic fragment derived from the serum α1-acid glycoprotein carrying a focused N-glycoform of cancer patients and healthy controls in a range between 200 and 1600 fmole μL without any enrichment process for the target glycoprotein.

A 45-year-old lady presented with left lower quadrant abdominal pain and hematochezia of 1 month duration. She had Copper-T, an intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) inserted in the immediate post-partum period 25 years ago elsewhere and was lost to follow up. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the repeatability of spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SDOCT) parameters in high-myopic and emmetropic healthy subjects, and to evaluate the influence of axial length on the repeatability of SDOCT parameters in high myopia.

Methods: In a prospective study, 93 eyes of 63 high-myopic subjects (spherical refractive error, -6 to -12 D; median age, 25 y) and 28 eyes of 14 emmetropic (spherical refractive error, 0 D; median age, 30 y) subjects underwent optic nerve head, retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL), and ganglion cell complex imaging with SDOCT. For the repeatability analysis, 31 eyes of 31 high-myopic subjects and 14 eyes of 14 emmetropic subjects underwent 3 repeated scans in the same session.

Brain metastases from cervical carcinomas are extremely rare. We report a patient with squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix who developed an isolated left parietooccipital lobe metastasis within 4 months of treatment of the primary disease. The presenting symptoms of the metastatic disease were visual disturbance, headache, and vomiting.
