Background And Objectives: Fibromyalgia has many unmet needs relating to treatment, and the delivery of effective and evidence-based healthcare is lacking. We analyzed social media conversations to understand the patients' perspectives on the lived experience of fibromyalgia, factors reported to trigger flares of pain, and the treatments being discussed, identifying barriers and opportunities to improve healthcare delivery.

Methods: A non-interventional retrospective analysis accessed detail-rich conversations about fibromyalgia patients' experiences with 714,000 documents, including a fibromyalgia language tag, which were curated between May 2019 and April 2021.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare the detection rates of breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL) using two methods: perometer and circumferential measurements, in patients who had breast cancer surgery.
  • A total of 101 female patients were monitored over 12 months, revealing that 34.7% showed signs of subclinical BCRL using circumferential measures, while 23.8% did so via perometer, with no significant difference in quality of life or functionality between those with and without subclinical lymphedema.
  • The researchers recommend regular monitoring for BCRL by the same healthcare provider and educating patients to enable early detection and intervention.

The term Raynaud's phenomenon (RP) is used to describe complex symptoms related to vascular compromise, which are typically exacerbated by cold-induced vasoconstriction, emotional stress, or other sympathomimetic factors. In almost all patients with limited cutaneous systemic sclerosis (SSc), the first symptom is RP, often two to five years before any other symptom of scleroderma. The clinical course and severity of this disease are variable and highly fatal in some individuals, which has led to the development of strategies for timely diagnosis; hence, criteria for the very early diagnosis of systemic sclerosis have been established.

Introduction: Thrombocytopenia is a common clinical problem in cancer patients undergoing high-dose chemotherapy and autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). It can occur as prolonged isolated thrombocytopenia (PIT) or secondary failure of platelet recovery (SFPR) and may cause potentially fatal bleeding. However, data on the treatment of post-transplant thrombocytopenia is still lacking.

Objective: To evaluate the 36-month clinical performance of Single Bond Universal Adhesive (SBU; 3M ESPE, Germany) in non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) using different modes of adhesion according to the FDI criteria. The primary outcome was the retention loss of the restorations, while the secondary outcomes included marginal staining, marginal adaptation, post-operative sensitivity and tooth vitality, recurrence of caries erosion and abfraction, and tooth integrity, all evaluated according to the FDI criteria.

Materials And Methods: In this study, the SBU Adhesive was applied to 246 NCCLs of 25 patients using different modes of adhesion: Self-etch (SE), selective-enamel-etching (SLE), and etch-and-rinse (ER).

Background: Postoperative extubation is a critical phase. Various medications and different ventilation modes are employed during extubation to minimize potential issues. This study aimed to observe the early effects of the concurrent use of positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) and pressure support ventilation (PSV) modes during the extubation-emerge period on the respiratory system.

The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the color change of resin composites with different filler contents subjected to immersion in different solutions, brushing, and thermal aging procedures. A total of 320 samples were prepared using 4 different flowable and 4 different conventional resin composites (n = 40). The samples were separated into 4 subgroups according to the solution to be used (wine, coffee, tea, or distilled water) and then immersed in the solutions for 12 days.

Background: Hospitals, being establishments with varying functions and capacities, must have disaster plans that reduce vulnerability, ensure the continuity, and possibly increase the capacity of healthcare services; these measures are crucial for reducing mortality and facilitating the normalization of life after a disaster. In this study, the aim was to analyze the operational process of the disaster management plan at Dicle University Faculty of Medicine Hospital following the earthquake in Kahramanmaraş on 6 February 2023.

Methods: This is a retrospective observational study.

Introduction: Spinal metastases are a significant concern for patients with advanced cancer, leading to pain, neurological deficits, and reduced quality of life. They occur in up to 70% of cancer patients, with the vertebral column being the most common osseous site for metastatic disease. An approximate 10% of patients with vertebral body metastases eventually develop spinal cord compression, which can potentially cause severe and permanent disability.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates Elabela as a potential laboratory marker for predicting placenta previa and placenta accreta, two serious obstetric conditions that currently lack biochemical diagnostic tools.
  • Conducted between 2020 and 2022 at two tertiary centers, the research analyzed Elabela levels in groups with plancental anomalies, finding significant differences in Elabela levels among control, previa, and accreta groups.
  • Results indicated a promising cut-off value for Elabela in diagnosing both conditions, with sensitivity and specificity showing potential for Elabela to be used as a biochemical marker, encouraging further research in this area.

The integration of rare disease medical databases belonging to different countries is an important problem, as a large number of observations are required for reliable statistical inference of patient data in order to facilitate clinical research. Such integration of national registry data, which requires harmonization of the heterogeneous data sets into a unified view, is facilitated in the European FAIRVASC project by developing a domain-specific ontology. The FAIRVASC project is dedicated to the rare disease of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA) associated vasculitis (AAV).

Venous thrombosis is a well-known complication of sex hormone therapy, with onset typically within weeks to months after initiation. Worldwide, more than 100 million pre-menopausal women use combined oral contraceptives, with tens to hundreds of thousands developing thrombosis annually, resulting in significant morbidity and mortality. Although it is known that estrogens can alter expression of coagulation factors, the pathways and mechanisms that connect the two systems, as well as the proteins involved in progression to thrombosis, are poorly understood.

Objective: Before commonly used targets such as the Retrogasserian Zone (RGZ) and the Root Entry Zone (REZ) were adopted for the radiosurgical treatment of trigeminal neuralgia (TN), a more anterior target involving the Gasserian ganglion was used. Thanks to advancements in imaging technology, it is now possible to identify and target separate nerve divisions in Meckel's Cave as desired. Although this approach has been mentioned previously, no clinical study has investigated it until now.

Accumulating evidence from clinical trials, large registries, and meta-analyses of population studies shows that increased Blood Pressure Variability (BPV) is predictive of Cardiovascular (CV) outcomes, independently of the average Blood Pressure (BP) values. One of the mechanisms explaining the relationship between BPV and target organ damage is the inflammatory response. The Systemic Immune Inflammation Index (SII), which relies on peripheral blood cell counts, including platelets, neutrophils, and lymphocytes, has emerged as a predictor of prognosis and outcomes in various diseases.
