Article Synopsis
  • Colorectal cancer (CRC) poses significant health risks with high rates of illness and death, and high levels of the protein CBX2 have been linked to worse outcomes for CRC patients.
  • New research shows that CBX2 is overexpressed in colorectal cancer tissues compared to healthy adjacent tissues, making it an independent factor for poor prognosis.
  • The study found that removing CBX2 decreases CRC cell growth and movement, increases cell death, and disrupts the cell cycle by affecting the MAPK signaling pathway, suggesting CBX2 could be a valuable target for cancer treatments.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common malignant gastrointestinal cancers worldwide. RING finger protein 186 (RNF186) is a member of the RING finger protein family. RNF186 has been reported to be involved in the regulation of the intestinal homeostasis through the regulation of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in colonic epithelial cells.

RING finger 186 (RNF186) is involved in the process of endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-stress-mediated apoptosis and inflammation of different cell types, such as HeLa cells and colon epithelial cells. However, the physiological and functional roles of RNF186 in peripheral tissues remain largely unknown. In the current study, we investigate the physiological function of RNF186 in the regulation of ER stress with respect to its biological roles in regulating insulin sensitivity in mouse primary hepatocytes.
