By influencing the type and quality of information that relay cells transmit, local interneurons in thalamus have a powerful impact on cortex. To define the sensory features that these inhibitory neurons encode, we mapped receptive fields of optogenetically identified cells in the murine dorsolateral geniculate nucleus. Although few in number, local interneurons had diverse types of receptive fields, like their counterpart relay cells.

Here, we combined intracranial stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) recordings in epileptic patients and circuit dissection in mice to show that visual cortex (VC) encodes timing information. We first asked human participants to perform an interval-timing task and found VC to be a key timing brain area.

We proposed a sleep EEG-based brain age prediction model which showed higher accuracy than previous models. Six-channel EEG data were acquired for 6 hours sleep. We then converted the EEG data into 2D scalograms, which were subsequently inputted to DenseNet used to predict brain age.
