  • Current risk stratification systems for thyroid nodules lack specificity, prompting a study to refine fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy criteria based on a large sample of thyroid nodules from Chinese hospitals between 2017 and 2021.
  • The modified ACR and AI TI-RADS guidelines resulted in increased specificity and accuracy while lowering the unnecessary FNA rate, although a slight reduction in sensitivity was observed.
  • No significant differences were found between the modified ACR and AI TI-RADS in terms of diagnostic performance, suggesting both revisions are equally effective in improving risk assessment.

A meta-analysis published in 2018 indicated a significant association between the dietary inflammatory index (DII) and risk of urologic cancers (UC). The number of included studies was limited, and more research has been published on this topic since then. The current study aimed to find a more precise estimate of the association between dietary inflammatory potential and risk of UC by updating the previous meta-analysis.

Article Synopsis
  • - Eye gaze influences how we perceive the duration of objects, showing that objects looked at by someone are seen as lasting shorter than those not looked at.
  • - A study with 70 adults revealed that people felt time was compressed for objects linked to another person's gaze, but this effect didn't happen with non-social cues like arrows.
  • - The time perception effect was connected to individuals' autistic traits and disappeared when the person’s line of sight was blocked, indicating that understanding social intentions through gaze is crucial for affecting our perception of time.

Walking direction conveyed by biological motion (BM) cues, which humans are highly sensitive to since birth, can elicit involuntary shifts of attention to enhance the detection of static targets. Here, we demonstrated that such intrinsic sensitivity to walking direction could also modulate the direction perception of simultaneously presented dynamic stimuli. We showed that the perceived direction of apparent motion was biased towards the walking direction even though observers had been informed in advance that the walking direction of BM did not predict the apparent motion direction.

Late diagnosis is one of the major contributing factors to the high mortality rate of lung cancer, which is now the leading cause of cancer-associated mortality worldwide. At present, low-dose CT (LDCT) screening in the high-risk population, in which lung cancer incidence is higher than that of the low-risk population is the predominant diagnostic strategy. Although this has efficiently reduced lung cancer mortality in large randomized trials, LDCT screening has high false-positive rates, resulting in excessive subsequent follow-up procedures and radiation exposure.

Background & Aims: A one-size-fits-all approach to colorectal cancer (CRC) screening that does not account for CRC risk factors is not conducive to personalized screening. On the basis of the principle of equal management of equal risks, we aimed to tailor and validate risk-adapted starting ages of CRC screening for individuals with different CRC risk factors.

Methods: A multi-center community-based population cohort (N = 3,165,088) was used to evaluate the starting age of CRC screening with comprehensive consideration of risk factors.

Biological motion (BM), depicted by a handful of point lights attached to the major joints, conveys rich animacy information, which is significantly disrupted if BM is shown upside down. This well-known inversion effect in BM perception is conserved in terrestrial vertebrates and is presumably a manifestation of an evolutionarily endowed perceptual filter (i.e.

Previous research has shown that social cues, including eye gaze, can readily guide our focus of attention-a phenomenon referred to as . Here, we demonstrated that internally maintained social cues in working memory (WM) can produce an analogous attentional effect ( = 57). Using the delayed-match-to-sample paradigm combined with the dot-probe task, we found that holding irrelevant gaze cues in WM can induce attentional orienting in college-age adults.

Over 40% of lung cancer cases occurred in never-smokers in China. However, high-risk never-smokers were precluded from benefiting from lung cancer screening as most screening guidelines did not consider them. We sought to develop and validate prediction models for 3-year lung cancer risks for never- and ever-smokers, named the China National Cancer Center Lung Cancer models (China NCC-LC models).

Background: Non-smokers account for a large proportion of lung cancer patients, especially in Asia, but the attention paid to them is limited compared with smokers. In non-smokers, males display a risk for lung cancer incidence distinct from the females-even after excluding the influence of smoking; but the knowledge regarding the factors causing the difference is sparse. Based on a large multicenter prospective cancer screening cohort in China, we aimed to elucidate the interpretable sex differences caused by known factors and provide clues for primary and secondary prevention.
