Article Synopsis
  • Oil emulsion (BJOE) is a traditional Chinese medicine used for treating lung cancer, but its active ingredients and mechanisms are not well understood.
  • This study identifies 13 active ingredients and confirms that certain compounds (β-sitosterol, luteolin, bruceitol) can effectively bind to key genes TP53 and MAPK1, impacting cancer treatment.
  • The findings reveal that luteolin is more effective than β-sitosterol at inhibiting lung cancer cell proliferation via the P53/MAPK1 signaling pathway, showcasing a comprehensive approach to treating cancer with BJOE.

Objectives: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a highly heterogeneous disease, and B cell abnormalities play a central role in the pathogenesis of SLE. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have also been implicated in the pathogenesis of SLE. The expression of lncRNAs is finely regulated and cell-type dependent, so we aimed to identify B cell-expressing lncRNAs as biomarkers for SLE, and to explore their ability to reflect the status of SLE critical pathway and disease activity.

Dihydroartemisinin (DHA) exerts an anti-tumor effect in multiple cancers, however, the molecular mechanism of DHA and whether DHA facilitates the anti-tumor efficacy of cisplatin in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) are unclear. Here, we found that DHA potentiated the anti-tumor effects of cisplatin in NSCLC cells by stimulating reactive oxygen species (ROS)-mediated endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, C-Jun-amino-terminal kinase (JNK) and p38 MAPK signaling pathways both in vitro and in vivo. Of note, we demonstrated for the first time that DHA inhibits prostaglandin G/H synthase 1 (PTGS1) expression, resulting in enhanced ROS production.

Artificial neural networks usually consist of successive linear multiply-accumulate operations and nonlinear activation functions. However, most optical neural networks only achieve the linear operation in the optical domain, while the optical implementation of activation function remains challenging. Here we present an optical ReLU-like activation function (with 180° rotation) based on a semiconductor laser subject to the optical injection in an experiment.
