Sugammadex: An Update.

The purpose of this update is to provide recent knowledge and debates regarding the use of sugammadex in the fields of anesthesia and critical care. The review is not intended to provide a comprehensive description of sugammadex and its clinical use.

Residual Curarization and Postoperative Respiratory Complications Following Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy. The Effect of Reversal Agents: Sugammadex vs. Neostigmine.

Background: Incomplete muscle relaxant reversal or re-curarization may be associated with postoperative respiratory complications. In this retrospective study we compared the incidence of postoperative residual curarization and respiratory complications in association with the type of muscle relaxant reversal agent, sugammadex or neostigmine, in patients undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.

Material And Methods: We reviewed the charts of all patients (179) undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy from July 2012 to July 2013 at Wolfson Medical Center.

Effect of Surgical Safety checklist implementation on the occurrence of postoperative complications in orthopedic patients.

Background: Surgical adverse events are errors that emerge during perioperative patient care. The World Health Organization recently published "Guidelines for Safe Surgery."

Objectives: To estimate the effect of implementation of a safety checklist in an orthopedic surgical department.

Institutional point-of-care glucometer identifies population trends in blood glucose associated with war.

Background: Acute physiological stress has been shown to impair glucose homeostasis. War is a period of acute psychological stress, and its effect on glucose control is unknown. In this study random point-of-care (POC) glucose levels were measured using an automated, institutional glucometer in hospitalized adult patients prior to versus during the Israeli Pillar of Defense campaign (November 7-10, 2012).

Nurses and nutrition: a survey of knowledge and attitudes regarding nutrition assessment and care of hospitalized elderly patients.

Background: Nurses' knowledge and attitudes regarding nutrition care play an important role in patient nutrition assessment and intervention. This study measured the association between nutrition knowledge and attitudes about nutrition care and feeding patients among nurses working in hospital settings.

Methods: This cross-sectional survey queried nutrition knowledge, attitudes, clinical applications, and task rankings using structured questionnaires in a representative sample of 106 nurses employed at two large government hospitals.

[The approach to the physician shortage in Israel].

The practice of medicine has changed in the last decade. Physicians no longer work largely solo but are part of interdisciplinary medical teams, and patient cases are more complex, as they suffer from multiple diseases. Today, the physician must also deal with economic, legal and public opinion issues.

A cluster of deaths following influenza vaccination, Israel, 2006.

When four deaths occurred in one week among influenza vaccine recipients, the Israeli Health Ministry suspended its 2006 influenza vaccination campaign pending investigation of the causes of death. Medical histories of the deceased vaccinees, quality control reports, and laboratory test results were examined. Prior vaccine use that season and a risk assessment of the vaccinated population were also considered.

Different reimbursement influences surviving of hip fracture in elderly patients.

Objectives: Research has shown that early surgical intervention for hip fractures serves to decrease mortality. In 2004 the Ministry of Health decided to condition the reimbursement regime at the time of operation. The objectives of this study were to examine whether the reform succeeded to decrease inpatient mortality of hip fracture casualties.
