The mining industry produces a large amount of industrial solid waste every year. Among them, fly ash (FA), slag and tailings are the three main solid wastes, which can cause soil pollution, air pollution, water pollution and serious threat to human health if not handled properly. At present, the treatment methods of industrial solid waste mainly include direct landfill, recovery of high-value components, production of construction materials, etc.

With the increasing demand for thermal management, phase change materials (PCMs) have garnered widespread attention due to their unique advantages in energy storage and temperature regulation. However, traditional PCMs present challenges in modification, with commonly used physical methods facing stability and compatibility issues. This study introduces a simple and effective chemical method by synthesizing seven ester-based PCMs through chemical reactions involving lauric acid (LA) and seven different alcohols.

Article Synopsis
  • High-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (HR-NMIBC) often recurs and progresses even after standard treatments, leading researchers to investigate the effectiveness and safety of a tislelizumab-based combination therapy.
  • The study analyzed 21 HR-NMIBC patients who received transurethral resection of the bladder tumor (TURBT) along with tislelizumab and bacillus-calmette guérin (BCG), with some also receiving chemotherapy.
  • Results showed promising outcomes, with 2-year bladder recurrence-free survival at 78.64% and few severe treatment-related adverse events, highlighting the potential of this combination therapy for HR-NMIBC patients.

Objective: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is common in elder men. The current study aims to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in hyperplastic prostate and to explore the role of Nik related kinase (NRK) in BPH.

Methods: Four datasets including three bulk and one single cell RNA-seq (scRNA-seq) were obtained to perform integrated bioinformatics.

The widespread use of plastics in modern human society has led to severe environmental pollution with microplastics (MP/MPs). The rising consumption of plastics raises the omnipresence of microplastics in aquatic environments, which carry toxic organic matter, transport toxic chemicals, and spread through the food chain, seriously threatening marine life and human health. In this context, several advanced strategies for separating and degrading MPs from water have been developed recently, and magnetic materials and their nanostructures have emerged as promising materials for targeting, adsorbing, transporting, and degrading MPs.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence, risk, and prognostic factors for synchronous liver metastasis (LM) in colorectal cancer (CRC) and to construct nomogram for predicting occurrence and prognosis of synchronous LM.

Methods: A total of 203,998 CRC patients who were registered in the SEER database between 2010 and 2016 were included. Logistic regression was used to analyze risk factors and Kaplan-Meier was used to estimate the overall survival of CRC patients with LM.

Objective To investigate the relationship between long chain non-coding RNA Fez family zinc finger protein 1 antisense ribonucleic acid 1 (FEZF1-AS1) and invasion, migration and Janus kinase 2/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (JAK2/STAT3) signal pathway in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) cells. Methods The expression' of FEZF1-AS1 in ESCC cancer tissue and ESCC cell line was detected by real-time quantitative PCR. After knocking down the FEZF1-AS1 of KYSE150 and KYSE510 cells by the constructed lentiviral expression vector, the changes of cell cycle were detected by flow cytometry, the ability of cell proliferation by colony formation assay, the ability of cell invasion by Transwell invasion assay, the ability of cell migration by Transwell migration and scratch assay, and the protein levels of JAK2 and phosphorylated STAT3 (p-STAT3) by Western blotting.

Water quality early warning system is mainly used to detect deliberate or accidental water pollution events in water distribution systems. Identifying the types of pollutants is necessary after detecting the presence of pollutants to provide warning information about pollutant characteristics and emergency solutions. Thus, a real-time contaminant classification methodology, which uses the multi-classification support vector machine (SVM), is proposed in this study to obtain the probability for contaminants belonging to a category.
