Objective: To investigate whether the combination of chemotherapy with staged Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) therapy could enhance health-related quality of life (QoL) in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients and prolong the time before deterioration of lung cancer symptoms, in comparison to chemotherapy alone.
Methods: A prospective, double-blind, randomized, controlled trial was conducted from December 14, 2017 to August 28, 2020. A total of 180 patients with stage I B-IIIA NSCLC from 5 hospitals in Shanghai were randomly divided into chemotherapy combined with CHM (chemo+CHM) group (120 cases) or chemotherapy combined with placebo (chemo+placebo) group (60 cases) using stratified blocking randomization.
Pyroptosis mediated by nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain (NOD)-like receptor 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome is implicated in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. Ginsenoside Rd (Rd), a monomer component of Panax ginseng and Panax notoginseng, is reported to confer neuroprotection in brain injury models. However, the role of pyroptosis in Rd-mediated neuroprotection following cerebral I/R has not been investigated.

Methods: We consecutively enrolled 241 AIS patients who are treated with thrombolytic therapy with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator. Baseline characters were measured on admission including the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), Trial of Org 10172 in Acute Stroke Treatment (TOAST), risk factors, platelet indices, and lipid parameters.
Strong inflammatory response triggered by the activation of the innate immune system is one typical characteristic of sepsis-associated liver injury (SALI). Guanylate-binding protein 5 (GBP-5) is a component of cell-autonomous immunity and known to be associated with inflammation. Currently, whether GBP-5 participates in SALI and its roles in this disease are yet to be investigated.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAspirin is an anti-inflammatory drug, and has been widely used for the prevention of cardio-cerebrovascular events. Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 and MMP-9 can degrade the extracellular matrix and may be critical for the development and disruption of atherosclerotic plaques, while tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase (TIMP)-1 may inhibit the degradation of extracellular matrix. The purpose of present study was to investigate the inhibitory effects of aspirin on MMP-2 and MMP-9 expression and activity in cultured mouse celiac macrophages, and to determine the possible mechanisms.
