Background: Periodontal ligament stem cell (PDLSC)-based therapy is one of the methods to assist bone regeneration. Understanding the functional regulation of PDLSCs and the mechanisms involved is a crucial issue in bone regeneration. This study aimed to explore the roles of the family with sequence similarity 96 member B (FAM96B) in the functional regulation of PDLSCs.

Osteoclast differentiation is essential for maintaining bone metabolism, and its dysregulation, particularly in the context of Echinococcus granulosus (CE) infection, can lead to severe bone loss. This study explores a novel mechanism by which CE protoscolices (PSC) drive osteoclast differentiation through the inhibition of Nrf2, followed by the upregulation of Camkk1. Transcriptome sequencing revealed a significant down-regulation of Nrf2 in cells treated with PSC.

Objective: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune inflammatory disease, characterized by significant individual variations in treatment response. Predicting treatment response remains a formidable challenge. This study aims to identify predictors within the synovium associated with the response to JAK inhibitor therapy in RA patients, employing a retrospective approach.

Article Synopsis
  • PM2.5 is a type of air pollution that can cause serious respiratory inflammation and related diseases.
  • This study explores whether mycelia, known for their medicinal properties, can help reduce PM2.5-induced lung inflammation and inflammation-related molecules.
  • Findings indicate that mycelia effectively lower nitric oxide production and the activation of inflammatory pathways in macrophages, suggesting their potential as a treatment for respiratory issues related to PM2.5 exposure.

The construction of river dams disrupts river continuity and sediment transport, altering the riverbed between sediment "sources" and "sinks" and changing the sediment characteristics of the river. In this study, 256 sediment samples from 54 major control cross-sections of the Lancang River (LCR) were analyzed to examine the spatial and temporal distribution of clay and non-clay minerals in the sediment and their relationship with the environmental changes caused by the construction 11 hydropower plants. The results indicate that the construction of terrace dams on the LCR interrupted the downstream refinement trend of sediments, which reappeared once the terrace reservoirs stabilized.

In orthopedic practice, accommodating irregular defects caused by trauma or surgery with traditional preformed bone graft substitutes is often challenging. As a result, injectable hydrogels with seed cells have garnered significant interest in bone repair due to their adaptability and minimally invasive properties. However, they cannot simultaneously achieve injectability and mechanical properties, providing a biophysical and biochemical environment for cell support.

Objective: To assess the tooth movement trends during the three stages of maxillary dentition distalization with clear aligners (CA) and to compare the efficacy of different mini-screw anchorage systems.

Materials And Methods: Three-dimensional (3D) finite element models of three anchorage systems (A, control group; B, buccal mini-screw anchorage group; C, palatal mini-screw anchorage group) were established. Three stages of simulating maxillary dentition distalization with CA included maxillary molar distalization (stage 1), maxillary premolar distalization (stage 2) and maxillary anterior teeth retraction (stage 3).

Objective: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a prevalent autoimmune disorder that leads to chronic joint inflammation, deformity, disability, and systemic complications. This study aimed to analyze the clinical characteristics and synovial pathology of RA patients with synoviocyte detachment, and explore the factors associated with this phenomenon.

Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study included RA patients who underwent synovial biopsy at our center from April to September 2023.

Background/purpose: External root resorption is a main side effect of orthodontic treatment and is more likely to occur on the pression side than the tension side. To explore the potential protective mechanisms on the tension side, this study investigated the influence of mechanical tension on cementoblast mineralization and elucidated the role of autophagy in mediating this process.

Materials And Methods: Mechanical tension was applied to cementoblasts using iStrain.

Orthodontic treatment in adults is often related to longer treatment time as well as higher periodontal risks compared to adolescents. The aim of this review is to explore the influence of age-related chages on orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) from macro and micro perspectives. Adults tend to show slower tooth movement speed compared to adolescence, especially during the early phase.

The inhibitory properties and underlying mechanism of chlorine dioxide (ClO) fumigation on the pathogen Ceratocystis fimbriata (C. fimbriata) and resultant sweetpotato black rot were investigated in vitro and in vivo. Results revealed that the ClO fumigation effectively inhibited fungal growth and induced obvious morphological variation of C.

Phenethyl isothiocyanate (PEITC), a natural product, exists in biological activities, including anticancer activity in many human cancer cells. No information shows that PEITC affects DNA damage in human retinoblastoma (RB) cells in vitro. In this study, the aim of experiments was to determine whether PEITC decreased total viable cell number or not by inducing protein expressions involved in DNA damage and repair in Y79 RB cells in vitro.

Background: Accurately assessing 5-year recurrence rates is crucial for managing non-muscle-invasive bladder carcinoma (NMIBC). However, the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) model exhibits poor performance.

Purpose: To investigate whether integrating multiparametric MRI (mp-MRI) with clinical factors improves NMIBC 5-year recurrence risk assessment.

Background: Cytolethal distending toxin (CDT) belongs to the genotoxin family and is closely related to Campylobacter jejuni-associated gastroenteritis. We recently reported that CDT triggers the danger-associated molecular pattern (DAMP) signaling to exert deleterious effects on host cells. However, how CDT traffics in cells and the mechanism of CDT intoxication remain to be elucidated.

Treatment strategies for hard tissue defects aim to establish a mineralized microenvironment that facilitates tissue remodeling. As a mineralized tissue, cementum shares a similar structure with bone and exhibits an excellent capacity to resist resorption under compression. Macrophages are crucial for mineralized remodeling; however, their functional alterations in the microenvironment of cementum remain poorly understood.

Re-irradiation with intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) remains the primary treatment modality for inoperable locally recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). However, the rate of radiation-related late adverse effects is often substantially high. Therefore, we aimed to explore failure patterns and individualized treatment plans of re-irradiation for inoperable locally recurrent NPC.

Objective: To examine the clinical features and synovial pathologies in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients across varying titers of circulating anti-citrullinated protein antibodies (ACPA).

Methodology: We devised a negative pressure suction and rebound synovial biopsy tool to enhance the yield of synovial biopsies, noted for its ease and safety of use. This research involved a retrospective examination of 60 active RA patients who underwent synovial biopsies with this tool from June to November 2013 at our institution.

Spinal cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a rare but malignant zoonosis that can cause disability or even death in more than half of patients. Due to the complex pathological features, it is not curable by conventional drugs and surgery, so new therapeutic targets urgently need to be discovered. In this study, we clarify the occurrence of the phenomenon of spinal encapsulation angiogenesis and explore its underlying molecular mechanisms.
