The peptide-drug conjugate (PDC) has emerged as one of the new approaches for cancer therapy, which has the advantages of improved drug target ability and reduced adverse effects compared with the traditional chemotherapy. CD133 is a surface antigen specific to cancer stem cells, which are thought to be responsible for the self-renewal, proliferation, metastasis, and chemoresistance of cancer cells. A PDC for CD133 was designed by us, and it consists of CD133 targeting peptide LS-7 (amino acid sequence LQNAPRS), a pH-sensitive linker (succinyl), and a cytotoxic payload, the cytotoxic molecule camptothecin (CPT) with potent toxicity in vivo and in vitro.

This study aimed to optimize the extraction of Hericium erinaceus polysaccharides (HEP) using ultrasound-assisted enzymatic extraction combined with Plackett-Burman design (PBD) and response surface methodology (RSM). The optimal extraction conditions were identified as: 33 min extraction time, 30:1 liquid to material ratio, 38 °C extraction temperature, 9 g/kg cellulase amount, pH 4, and 20 % ethanol concentration. Under these conditions, the extraction yield of HEP was 5.

Article Synopsis
  • Human DNA topoisomerase I (Topo I) plays a crucial role in DNA regulation during processes like transcription and replication, making it a target for cancer treatments.
  • A medicinal herb used in China for cancer treatment has yielded new compounds, including flavonoids and polyacetylenes, some of which show significant cytotoxic effects against human cancer cell lines.
  • Certain flavonoids and polyacetylenes inhibit Topo I activity and cause cell cycle arrest in colon cancer cells, indicating that these flavonoids are likely key contributors to the herb's anti-tumor effects.

Prior studies have shown that experts possess an excellent ability for action anticipation. However, it is not clear how experts process the discrepancies between predicted outcomes and actual outcomes. Based on Bayesian theory, Experiment 1 in the current study explored this question by categorizing unexpected outcomes into gradually increasing discrepancies and comparing the performance of experts and novices on a congruence discrimination task.

In nature, plants are colonized by various microbes that play essential roles in their growth and health. Heterosis is a natural genetic phenomenon whereby first-generation hybrids exhibit superior phenotypic performance relative to their parents. It remains unclear whether this concept can be extended to the "hybridization" of microbiota from two parents in their descendants and what benefits the hybrid microbiota might convey.

Aim: The aim of this study is to explore the cognition and practice on transitional care during the transfer from intensive care unit to a general ward among health care professionals in China.

Background: Due to the significant differences in the medical and humanistic environment at home and abroad, the safety of patients during the transmission from intensive care unit to the general ward is often ignored when their conditions become stable. There are few qualitative studies on the cognition and practice on transitional care during the transfer from intensive care unit to the ward among health care professionals in China.

Due to the remarkable anti-tumor activities of oridonin (Ori), research on has attracted more and more attention in the pharmaceutical field. The purpose of this study was to extract Ori from by ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) and prepare Ori liposomes as a novel delivery system to improve the bioavailability and biocompatibility. Response surface methodology (RSM), namely Box-Behnken design (BBD), was applied to optimize extraction conditions, formulation, and preparation process.

Prometryne is a widely used herbicide in China to control annual grasses and broadleaf weeds. However, the stability of prometryne makes it difficult to be degraded, which poses a threat to human health. This study presents a bacterial strain isolated from soil samples with a prometryne application history, designated strain DY-1.
