Adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD) is a rare but clinically well-known, polygenic, and systemic autoinflammatory disease, which is characterized by spiking fever, evanescent skin rash, arthralgia, and sore throat. The application of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and glucocorticoids, which are first-line therapies of AOSD, is limited due to their side effects such as liver injury or disorder of blood glucose. Therefore, patients who suffer from systemic diseases in China prefer to seek help from Chinese herbal medicine (CHM), which is an important part of complementary and alternative medicine.

Objective: To investigate composition principle of Yinqiao-decoction through experiment of anti-influenza.
Methods: The effects of different compositions of Yinqiao-decoction on the index of hemagglutinin titre of virus in the lung tissue of mice infected with virus from nose were investigated by orthogonal design.
Results: According to the hemagglutinin titre of virus in the lung tissue of mice, the necessary effective drugs of Yinqiao-decoction are forsythia suspense, flos lonicerae, fructus arctii, schizonepeta tenuifolia, folium phyllostach lophatheri, glycyrrhiza uralensis, platycodon grandiflorum and mentha haplocalyx, and semen sojae preparatum isn't necessary.
A reversed phase (RP)-HPLC method was established for simultaneous determination of chlorogenic acid, arctiin and forsythin in Yinqiao Jiedu Granules, which was a commonly used Chinese herbal medical preparation for treatment of rheum ailments. The determination was based on a gradient elution (A: 1% acetic acid, pH=3.0, B: methanol) on a C18 column and an automatic wavelength switching program, where 325 nm was used for chlorogenic acid and 280 nm for arctiin and forsythin, respectively.
