Hereditary protein S deficiency (PSD) is an autosomal dominant disorder caused by mutations in the 1 gene which can cause venous thrombosis. Individuals with PSD usually present with recurrent deep vein thrombosis and/or pulmonary embolism, but thrombosis may occur at unusual sites, such as the mesenteric and portal veins. Here we report a case of hereditary protein S deficiency patient with predominant mesenteric venous thrombosis.

Plant extracts have emerged as a promising and relatively unexplored area of research as potential substitutes. Herein, we investigated the prevalence and distribution patterns of bacteria on egg surfaces and evaluated the inhibitory effects of mangosteen extract on these surface bacteria.

Results: Here, we designed and developed an ultrasound probe enhanced enzymatic hydrolysis reactor for quick separation and simultaneously quantification of 22 β-adrenergic agonists in animal urine and livestock wastewater. Owing to the enhancement of the conventional enzymatic digestion through the ultrasound acoustic probe power, only 2 min was required for the comprehensively separation of β-adrenergic agonists from the sample matrices, making it a much more desirable alternative tool for high-throughput investigation.
Introduction: Primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) is an autoimmune disease characterized by inflammatory infiltration, and dysfunction of the salivary and lacrimal glands. This research aimed to explore the disease pathogenesis and improve the diagnosis and treatment of pSS by mining inflammation-associated biomarkers.
Methods: Five pSS-related datasets were retrieved from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database.
Our recent study showed that Nitazoxanide (NTZ), an FDA-approved anti-parasitic drug, prevents ovariectomy-induced bone loss by inhibiting osteoclast activity. However, there have been no investigations to determine whether NTZ has preventive potential in other bone resorbing diseases, especially rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In this study, the primary RA fibroblast-like synoviocytes (RA-FLS) and collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) murine model were used to evaluate the effect of NTZ.

Design: This retrospective study was based on secondary data analysis.
Methods: Patient data from electronic health records were retrospectively obtained and we included 438 and 1752 patients with and without pressure injury, respectively, among those admitted to the medical and surgical intensive care units (ICUs) from January 2017-February 2020.
Objective: We aimed to investigate the effect of targeted therapies on cardiovascular risk in psoriasis (PsO) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) via a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs).
Methods: Pubmed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Scopus were searched for RCTs reporting targeted therapies in patients with PsO/PsA published until 28 October 2021. The primary and secondary outcomes included the relationship between targeted therapies and all cardiovascular events (CVEs), major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs), myocardial infarction (MI), heart failure, and stroke in PsO/PsA.
This study examined the clinical usability of two automated risk assessment systems-the Automated Fall Risk Assessment System and Automated Pressure Injury Risk Assessment System. The clinical usability of automated assessment systems was tested in three ways: agreement between the scales that nurses generally use and the automated assessment systems, focus group interviews, and the predicted amount of time saved for risk assessment and documentation. For the analysis of agreement, 1160 patients and 1000 patients were selected for falls and pressure injuries, respectively.

However, long-term ex vivo culture to obtain a sufficient number of cells in MSC transplantation leads to cellular senescence, deficiency of the paracrine potential, and loss of survival rate post-transplantation. In this study, we evaluated whether supplementation of MSCs with substance P (SP) can improve their therapeutic potential.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common cartilage disorder that results from breakdown of joint cartilage and underlying bone tissues. Once OA is induced in the joint, subsequent immune reaction leads to chronic inflammation that results in the progression of OA and deconstruction of the cartilage. In this study, an injectable hydrogel with epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) is introduced to control inflammation and enhance cartilage regeneration.

Objective: To identify the risk factors of sepsis-associated delirium and determine their effect on intensive care unit adult patient outcomes.
Design: A secondary analysis of data from system development studies.
Setting: Korean intensive care unit patients in a university hospital who were diagnosed with sepsis.
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of the joint disease associated with age, obesity, and traumatic injury. It is a disabling degenerative disease that affects synovial joints and leads to cartilage deterioration. Despite the prevalence of this disease, the understanding of OA pathophysiology is still incomplete.

The present study aimed to intensively analyze pharmaceutical factors affecting the development of delirium in mechanically ventilated patients using the electronic health records. The present study was designed as a retrospective case-control study.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of pressure injuries on mortality, hospital length of stay, healthcare costs, and readmission rates in hospitalized patients.
Design: A case-control study.
Subjects And Setting: The sample comprised 5000 patients admitted to a tertiary hospital located in Seoul Korea; 1000 patients with pressure injuries (cases) were compared to 4000 patients who acted as controls.
Catheter-associated urinary tract infection is one of the most common healthcare-acquired infections. It is important to institute preventive measures such as surveillance of the appropriate use of indwelling urinary catheters and timely removal by identifying patients at high risk for catheter-associated urinary tract infection. The purpose of this study was to develop an Automated Risk Assessment System for Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection and evaluate its predictive validity.

Background: The occurrence rate of postoperative delirium is high in surgical patients. Postoperative delirium most frequently occurs usually within 3 days after an operation.
Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) signaling has been reported to play a vital role in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In current study, we sought to observe whether the active immunization induced by the mimotope could recognize EGFR, inhibit their signaling and disrupt the pathogenic behavior of fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS) from RA patients. We prepared a linked EGFR mimotope and performed series of experiments to detect whether the mimotope could induce the desired immune responses.

This study aimed to explore the function of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) induced by HBx.
Methods: The association between HBx and EMT markers was detected using immunohistochemistry in HCC tissues.
The present study aimed to examine whether the enzyme activity of aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) was regulated by Nodal and histamine in the human alveolar adenocarcinoma A549 cell line. The regulated enzyme activity of ALDH was analyzed by flow cytometry in the A549 cell line. ALDH1 and Nodal expression was investigated by immunohistochemistry in28 cases of lung mixed adenocarcinoma.

Objectives: The objectives of the study were to build an automated pressure injury risk assessment system (Auto-PIRAS) that can assess pressure injury risk using data, without requiring nurses to collect or input additional data, and to evaluate the validity of this assessment tool.
Methods: A retrospective case-control study and a system development study were conducted in a 1,355-bed university hospital in Seoul, South Korea.
Background: A key component of the delirium management is prevention and early detection.
Objective: To develop an automated delirium risk assessment system (Auto-DelRAS) that automatically alerts health care providers of an intensive care unit (ICU) patient's delirium risk based only on data collected in an electronic health record (EHR) system, and to evaluate the clinical validity of this system.
Design: Cohort and system development designs were used.
