Background: Ischemic stroke (IS) is a common and serious neurological condition that is highly fatal but so far no early diagnostic markers are available. Myocardial infarction-associated transcript (MIAT) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) that could lead to IS by inducing autophagy and apoptosis in neuronal cells. However, there has been no report on the link between susceptibility to IS and the single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of MIAT.

Background: Interleukin (IL)-33 is highly expressed in glioblastoma (GBM) and promotes tumor progression. Targeting IL-33 may be an effective strategy for the treatment of GBM. Dexamethasone (DEX) is a controversial drug routinely used clinically in GBM therapy.

The aberrant expression of miR-365 has been found to be implicated in a wide array of human diseases, including atherosclerosis and cancer. Studies on single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in miRNA genes can help gain insight into the susceptibility to the condition.

Nevertheless, until now, no studies have examined the relationship between the susceptibility to ischemic stroke (IS) and genetic variations in miR-208. This study explored the association between the miR-208 polymorphisms (rs178642, rs8022522, and rs12894524) and the risk of IS.
