Cardiac fibrosis characterized by aberrant activation of cardiac fibroblasts impairs cardiac contractile and diastolic functions, inducing the progression of the disease towards its terminal phase, resulting in the onset of heart failure. Therefore, the inhibition of cardiac fibrosis has become a promising treatment for cardiac diseases. The ovarian follicle-stimulating hormone folliculin (FLCN) plays a significant role in various biological processes, such as lysosome function, mitochondrial synthesis, angiogenesis, ciliogenesis and autophagy.

Obesity is a chronic and complex disease defined by the excessive deposition of fat and is highly associated with oxidative stress. Adzuki bean saponins (ABS) showed anti-obesity activity in our previous in vivo study; however, the active saponins of adzuki beans and potential mechanisms are still unclear. This research aims to elucidate the anti-obesity effects of ABS in improving lipid metabolism and oxidative stress, exploring the effective ingredients and potential molecular mechanisms through UHPLC-QE-MS analysis, network pharmacology, bioinformatics, and in vitro experiments both in the 3T3-L1 cell line and HepG2 cell line.

Article Synopsis
  • Roflumilast (Roflu) is proposed as a potential treatment for retinal ischemia-reperfusion injury, which leads to retinal cell degeneration and inflammation.
  • The study involved both animal and cell models to assess Roflu's effects on microglial senescence and neuroinflammation following ischemic conditions.
  • Results showed that Roflu significantly reduced inflammation, restored cell health, and protected retinal ganglion cells, suggesting it could be an effective therapeutic approach for retinal diseases caused by ischemic injuries.

Article Synopsis
  • - Cancer is a leading global cause of death, and natural products like galangal and its active compound, galangin, are being researched for their potential as new anticancer treatments.
  • - The study compiled extensive research on galangal's distribution, extraction methods, and how galangin affects cancer cell behavior by regulating key signaling pathways that induce cell death and inhibit cancer spread.
  • - The findings suggest that galangal and galangin have significant potential in cancer therapy, encouraging further exploration of their use in drug development.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is recognized as the primary cause of mortality and morbidity on a global scale, and developing a clear treatment is an important tool for improving it. Cardiometabolic disorder (CMD) is a syndrome resulting from the combination of cardiovascular, endocrine, pro-thrombotic, and inflammatory health hazards. Due to their complex pathological mechanisms, there is a lack of effective diagnostic and treatment methods for cardiac metabolic disorders.

This study aims to identify the mechanism of geniposide regulating oxidative stress in colorectal cancer (CRC) through network pharmacology and bioinformatics analysis. Targets of geniposide, oxidative stress-related targets and targets related to CRC were applied from databases. The hub genes for geniposide regulating oxidative stress in CRC were identified with the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network.

High-fat diet (HFD) has been recognized as a primary factor in the risk of chronic disease. Obesity, diabetes, gastrointestinal diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, and cardiovascular diseases have long been known as chronic diseases with high worldwide incidence. In this review, the influences of gut microbiota and their corresponding bacterial metabolites on the mechanisms of HFD-induced chronic diseases are systematically summarized.

Depressive disorder (DD) is the leading cause of disability worldwide and is the most prevalent mood disorder. Accumulative evidence from epidemiological studies has shown that DD is a risk factor for cancer. However, the role and molecular mechanism of DD in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are still unknown.

Aim: To identify new biomarkers of prostate cancer (PCa) for the diagnosis and prediction of clinical outcomes.

Materials And Methods: Existing microarray data of PCa tissues in the Oncomine database were analyzed and candidate differentially expressed genes (DEGs) that may be novel and noninvasive biomarkers were obtained. On this basis, plasma mRNA was extracted from PCa patients and healthy donors.

: Trophinin-associated protein (TROAP) is a cytoplasmic protein that plays a significant role in the processes of embryo transplantation and microtubule regulation. However, the relevant survival analysis and cancer progression analysis have not yet been reported. : Eighteen matched pairs of tumor and adjacent non-tumor samples were evaluated to detect the TROAP mRNA level.

Background: Hyperuricemia (HUA) is the most common disease associated with cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, hypertension, and kidney disease. The objective of the current study was to evaluate the preliminary efficacy, mechanism, and safety of acupuncture on serum uric acid in patients with asymptomatic HUA.

Methods: A randomized, placebo-controlled trial among 123 patients with asymptomatic HUA was conducted.

Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is a ubiquitous virus. Although the infection in healthy children and adults is usually asymptomatic, in immunocompromised individuals and newborns it is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality. UL49, an essential gene of HCMV, is highly conserved among various HCMV strains.
