Chinese traditional smoked pork was contaminated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and chlorinated and brominated PAHs (ClPAHs and BrPAHs; XPAHs) during the smoking process. Therefore, our study investigated the concentrations, enrichment characteristics, and health risks associated with PAHs, as well as ClPAHs and BrPAHs in Chinese traditional smoked pork. The total concentrations of PAHs, ClPAHs and BrPAHs in traditional smoked pork ranged from 90.

Article Synopsis
  • A case study in Changzhou, China examined variations in 43 pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) found in the water supply across different seasons and locations.
  • The study found that while there were fewer types of PPCPs in raw water during summer, the concentrations in urban drinking water were higher due to poor removal by treatment processes in warmer temperatures.
  • Rural private wells showed even higher levels of PPCPs, with 12 additional types detected compared to urban sources, leading to significantly higher health risks for rural residents.

Hexafluoropropylene oxide dimer acid (HFPO-DA, ammonium salt with trade name: GenX) has been recently detected in river water worldwide. There are significant concerns about its persistence, and potential adverse effects to the biota. In this study, the degradability of GenX by typical advanced redox technologies (UV/persulfate and UV/sulfate) is investigated.
