Objective: To determine whether intraoperative transfusion of allogeneic or autologous blood is associated with an increased incidence of postoperative delirium (POD) after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and total hip arthroplasty (THA).
Methods: The medical records of 1,143 older (≥65 years old) patients who received an intraoperative blood transfusion while undergoing total knee or hip arthroplasty at the First Medical Center of Chinese PLA General Hospital from 2014 to 2019 were reviewed; of these patients, 742 (64.92%) received allogeneic blood, while 401 (35.
Empathy involves integrated affective and cognitive processes to share the emotional state of others. This evolutionarily conserved ability has also been identified in nonhuman primates and rodents. Our previous work demonstrated that social interaction with a cagemate rat in pain induces mechanical pain hypersensitivity in cagemate observer (CO) rats.

Objective: To investigate the effect of propofol and operative trauma on the neurodevelopment and cognitive function of the developing brain and its mechanism.
Methods: A total of 104 postnatal day 13 Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 4 groups: control group (treated by 7.5 mL/kg saline and sham surgery), propofol group (treated by 75 mg/kg propofol), surgery group (with abdominal surgery under local anesthesia) and propofol+surgery group (with abdominal surgery under local anesthesia plus 75 mg/kg propofol anesthesia).

Objective: To explore the anesthetic effects of repeated administration of propofol combined with vitamin C in mice.
Methods: Forty mice were subjected to daily intraperitoneal injections of 80 mg/kg propofol (P80 group), 70 mg/kg propofol and 50 mg/kg vitamin C (P70+Vc50 group), 55 mg/kg propofol and 100 mg/kg vitamin C (P55+Vc100 group), or 50 mg/kg propofol and 200 mg/kg vitamin C (P50+Vc200 group) for 6 consecutive days, and the anesthesia induction time and anesthesia duration were recorded.
Results: Compared with the P80 group, the mice in P55 + Vc100 group and P50 + Vc200 group showed significantly shorter anesthesia duration on the first 3 days (P<0.
Enterovirus 71 (EV71) infection can cause severe disease and lead to death in children. Recurring outbreaks of EV71 have been reported in several countries. Interferons (IFNs) have been used for decades to treat several types of viral infection, but have a limited ability to inhibit EV71 replication.

To verify the effectiveness of the method, two TetR-expressing Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cell lines, CHO-TR B2 (stringent) and B5 (less stringent), in which the EGFP genes were variantly controlled by tetracycline, were used to construct cell lines expressing the anti-apoptosis gene survivin upon induction with tetracycline. The resulting stable clones were analyzed for survivin expression.

The modifications conferred increases of 56-94% in S-phase fractions and decreases of 33-43% in early-stage apoptosis fractions. Clone 6.

NFkappaB is an important transcription factor that is involved in the post-transcriptional regulation of mRNA expression for several immunoinflammatory mediators in response to endotoxemia. This study examined the effect of ketamine on NFkappaB activation and TNFalpha production in rat peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC).

The neutrophil is a key mediator in producing organ injury following shock and trauma and is regulated by GH. Therefore, the purpose of the present study was to examine the effects of GH on circulating neutrophil activation and subsequent lung injury induced by sepsis in rats.

In this work, we have investigated whether ginkgolide B (GKB), a terpene lactone component from Ginkgo biloba, modulates intracellular calcium ([Ca (2+)] i) of vascular smooth muscle cells (smc) and how it influences the vasopressor response in vitro caused by serotonin (5-HT). GKB (3.
