Objective: To explore the Rh genotype for a female with RhD(-) blood type and its molecular basis.

Methods: A 26-year-old female who had attended the outpatient clinic of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University in August 2019 was selected as the study subject. Peripheral blood samples were collected from the proband and her parents for Rh phenotyping with gel card method.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates a unique ABO blood type known as the Bel subtype, which is linked to a specific genetic variant (c.620T>C) affecting the GTB transferase enzyme.
  • Researchers analyzed a patient by performing ABO phenotyping and sequencing of the ABO gene to identify the genetic changes responsible for this blood type.
  • The findings suggest that the c.620T>C variant can destabilize the transferase's structure, leading to decreased enzyme activity and resulting in lower B antigen expression characteristic of the Bel subtype.

Objective: To investigate the effectiveness and safety of low concentration dithiothreitol (DTT) in removing the interference of monoclonal anti-CD38 on transfusion compatibility testing, and develop a reasonable clinical transfusion strategy.

Methods: The blood type, direct antiglobulin testing (DAT) and antibody screening were tested according to standard methods. Antibody screening cells and donor's red blood cells were treated by DTT 0.

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of convalescent plasma therapy in patients with severe and critical coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Methods: Plasma of 200-400 mL was collected from convalescent patients 2 weeks after being discharged from the hospital. After viral nucleic acid testing and antibody testing, the plasma was infused into 16 severe or critical COVID-19 patients.
