Background: Bile duct injury (BDI) is a severe complication following cholecystectomy and is therefore a particularly concerning surgical predicament for hepatobiliary surgeons. Owing to very high medical compensation awarded to patients suffering from BDI, surgeons need to exercise caution during surgery to avoid BDI. Herein, we explored a novel method to identify cystic duct during laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC), expanding the applicability of this surgical approach.

Article Synopsis
  • Intrauterine adhesion (IUA) is a severe cause of infertility due to damage to the endometrium, and stem cell therapy presents a potential treatment by either paracrine effects or transdifferentiation.
  • The study involved co-culturing human amniotic mesenchymal stem cells (hAMSCs) with transformed endometrial stromal cells and assessing various molecular and histological markers after treatment in an IUA rat model.
  • Results showed that hAMSCs significantly reduced collagen and fibronectin levels in damaged cells, improved endometrial gland counts, and decreased fibrosis, particularly noted after 6 days of co-culture.

Targeted therapy has become crucial to modern translational science, offering a remedy to conventional drug delivery challenges. Conventional drug delivery systems encountered challenges related to solubility, prolonged release, and inadequate drug penetration at the target region, such as a tumor. Several formulations, such as liposomes, polymers, and dendrimers, have been successful in advancing to clinical trials with the goal of improving the drug's pharmacokinetics and biodistribution.

Early detection of cancer is crucial to reducing fatalities and improving patient outcomes. Metastasis is the first stage of aggressive cancers, often occurring before primary lesions can be seen. It occurs when cancerous cells disseminate to distant, non-malignant organs through the bloodstream, known as circulating tumor cells (CTCs).

Although the treatment of ovarian cancer has made great progress, there are still many patients who are not timely detected and given targeted therapy due to unknown pathogenesis. Recent studies have found that hsa_circ_0015326 is upregulated in ovarian cancer and is involved in the proliferation, invasion, and migration of ovarian cancer cells. However, whether hsa_circ_0015326 can be used as a new target of ovarian cancer needs further investigation.

Background: Studies have suggested a possible relevance between branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) catabolic enzymes and cancers. However, few studies have explored the variation in circulating concentrations of BCAAs. Our study used bi-directional, two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis for predicting the causality between the BCAA levels and 9 types of cancers.

The calculation of two-electron repulsion integrals (ERIs) is a crucial aspect of Hartree-Fock calculations. In computing the ERIs of varying angular momentum, both the central processing unit (CPU) and the graphics processing unit (GPU) have their respective advantages. To accelerate the ERI evaluation and Fock matrix generation, a hybrid CPU/GPU method has been proposed to maximize the computational power of both CPU and GPU while overlapping the CPU and GPU computations.

Hirame novirhabdovirus (HIRRV) is one of most serious viral pathogens causing significant economic losses to the flounder ()-farming industry. Previous studies have shown that the outbreak of HIRRV is highly temperature-dependent, and revealed the viral replication was significantly affected by the antiviral response of flounders under different temperatures. In the present study, the proteome and phosphoproteome was used to analyze the different antiviral responses in the HIRRV-infected flounder under 10 °C and 20 °C.

Background: There is insufficient evidence for the ability of vitamin K2 to improve type 2 diabetes mellitus symptoms by regulating gut microbial composition. Herein, we aimed to demonstrate the key role of the gut microbiota in the improvement of impaired glycemic homeostasis and insulin sensitivity by vitamin K2 intervention.

Methods: We first performed a 6-month RCT on 60 T2DM participants with or without MK-7 (a natural form of vitamin K2) intervention.

Molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) is a significant and crucial physical quantity that can be applied to a large number of scenarios, such as the prediction of nucleophilic or electrophilic attacks, fitting atomic charges, σ-hole, and so forth. The computational cost for the MEP has an O(N ) scaling with the increase of atoms, which is intractable and laborious for macromolecules. Herein, a density fitting molecular electrostatic potential (DF-MEP) is used to reduce the computational costs for the macromolecular MEP.
