Cardiac arrest (CA) poses a significant global health challenge and often results in poor prognosis. We developed an interpretable and applicable machine learning (ML) model for predicting in-hospital mortality of CA patients who survived more than 72 h. A total of 721 patients were extracted from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV database, divided into the training set (n = 576) and the internal validation set (n = 145).

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an autoimmune disease with an incompletely understood pathogenesis. The Janus kinase (JAK)/signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) signaling pathway plays a key role in immune response and inflammation. More and more studies demonstrated that JAK/STAT signaling pathway is associated with the pathogenesis of UC.

Grains are an energy source for human beings, and the two main components-starch and protein-determine the application of grains in food. The structure and properties of starch play a decisive role in determining processing characteristics, nutritional properties, and application in grain-based foods. The interaction of proteins with starch greatly affects the structure, physicochemical, and digestive properties of the starch matrix.

CONSTANS (CO) plays a vital role in activating the expression of the florigen FT during photoperiod-dependent flowering. The diurnal oscillation of CO protein abundance is strictly controlled by daylength and the circadian clock. We showed previously that ABI5-BINDING PROTEIN2 (AFP2) represses CO expression to delay flowering.

Introduction: The existing ultrasound appointment system faces multiple challenges, including a lack of diversity in its operation modes, sluggish efficiency, and limited flexibility. During emergency situations, such as disease outbreaks or severe disaster events, the demand for ultrasound examinations skyrockets, making it imperative to offer patients efficient and user-friendly ultrasound appointment services.

Methods: This study introduces the application of a patient-centered real-time dynamic resource allocation strategy in an ultrasound appointment system.

Phages have garnered increasing attention due to their potential roles in biogeochemical cycling. However, their impacts on nitrogen cycling have primarily been inferred from the presence of putative auxiliary metabolic genes (AMGs) and the virus-host linkage, despite of very limited direct experimental evidence. In this study, a series of microcosms were established with the inoculation of either native or non-native phages to simulate coastal wetlands with different phage sources and different levels of copper (Cu) contamination.

Background: Central venous pressure (CVP) monitoring is critical for fluid management in critically ill patients. This study evaluated the impact of CVP monitoring on 1-year mortality in intensive care unit (ICU) patients with congestive heart failure (CHF).

Methods: Data from the Medical Information for Critical Care IV (MIMIC-IV) database were analyzed for ICU patients admitted for the first time with a stay > 24 h.

Objective: To establish a prediction model for recurrent laryngeal nerve thermal injury (RLNTI) in radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC).

Materials And Methods: This prospective study was conducted at a single center from July 2016 to September 2022. Patients diagnosed with PTC and received US-RFA by different interventional therapy groups were enrolled, and classified as derivation cohort and validation cohort based on therapy groups.

Background: The Human Proteome Project has credibly detected nearly 93% of the roughly 20,000 proteins which are predicted by the human genome. However, the proteome is enigmatic, where alterations in amino acid sequences from polymorphisms and alternative splicing, errors in translation, and post-translational modifications result in a proteome depth estimated at several million unique proteoforms. Recently mass spectrometry has been demonstrated in several landmark efforts mapping the human proteoform landscape in bulk analyses.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a heterogeneous disease that develops through a stepwise accumulation, yet the underlying mechanisms at single-cell resolution remain unclear. Here, we profiled 751,531 single-cell transcriptomes, spatial transcriptomics, and snMultiomes from 142 multistage samples, revealing the cellular and molecular alterations and dynamic intercellular crosstalk during CRC development. Additionally, we created a CRC sc-eQTL map identifying 16,833 significant pairs across 28 cell subtypes, with over 76% of sc-eQTLs being cell-type-specific and fewer than 15% detectable in bulk datasets.

Traditional Chinese medicine Chaihu Shugan San (CSGS) is a classic Chinese herb prescription for improving depression, but its specific molecular mechanism has not been fully clarified. This study integrates network pharmacology and experimental validation to investigate CSGS's antidepressant effects, focusing on its impact on GC metabolism and related pathways. In this research, the antidepressant mechanism of CSGS in relation to the depression model induced by chronic unpredictable mild stress will be discussed.

Background: Triglyceride glucose-body mass (TyG-BMI) index, sedentary behavior (SB) and physical activity (PA) are independently associated with all-cause mortality and myocardial infarction (MI). However, it remains unclear whether TyG-BMI index and the combination of SB and PA exhibit joint effects on all-cause mortality and MI.

Methods: Among 502 356 participants from the UK Biobank, 297 761 eligible participants were selected.

Bile-processed Coptidis Rhizoma (BPCR) exhibits stronger efficacy in treating T2DM than Coptidis Rhizoma(CR) alone. However, the synergistic mechanism of its processing remains unknown. This study utilized HPLC to determine the content and dissolution characteristics of alkaloid components in BPCR before and after processing.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative disease which places an enormous burden on society, effective treatments are still limited. As a non-invasive and safe physical therapy, low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) can alleviate OA progression, but the underlying mechanism is not fully understood, especially the mechanical transduction between LIPUS and the organism. In this pioneering study, the biomechanical effects of LIPUS on living mice chondrocytes and living body zebrafish are investigate by using fluorescence imaging technology, to dynamically "visualize" its invisible mechanical stimuli in the form of calcium oscillations.

Leaf nitrogen allocation plays a crucial role in determining both photosynthetic function and structural development of plants. However, the effects of drought, salt stress, and their combination on leaf nitrogen allocation, and how these affect mesophyll conductance ( ) and photosynthesis, remain poorly understood. In this study, we first investigated variations in photosynthetic characteristics and leaf nitrogen allocation, and analyzed the relationship between and leaf nitrogen allocation ratios in under drought, salt and combined drought-salt stress.

The successful application of primordial germ cells (PGCs) is an ideal method for generating gene-edited birds. However, barriers to efficient DNA transfection in PGCs lead to low transfection efficiency, limiting the generation of genetically modified chickens. The current study utilized chemical transfection and electroporation methods to determine the optimal transfection conditions for the PGC line under feeder- and serum-free medium.

: As a key mechanism of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) pathogenesis, inflammation triggered by chronic liver injury and immune cells with macrophages enables MASLD to progress to an advanced stage with irreversible processes such as fibrosis, cell necrosis, and cancer in the liver. The complexity of MASLD, including crosstalk between multiple organs and the liver, makes developing a new drug for MASLD challenging, especially in single-drug therapy. It was reported that upregulation of Notch1 is closely associated with the function of pro-inflammatory macrophages.
