Heavy metal cations and anions contaminated groundwater was a big challenge to water resource safety. Herein, a green sulfidated micro zero-valent iron-based hydrogel (SA-S-mZVI) was synthesized using sodium alginate biomass for the simultaneous removal of heavy metal cations (Cu(II), Pb(II), Cd(II)) and anions (Cr(VI)). The sulfur modification and incorporation of sodium alginate hydrogel facilitated the efficient and sustainable removal of both single and multi-heavy metals.

Antitumor photodynamic therapy (PDT) faces huge challenges as selectivity and phototoxic damage, requiring delivery photosensitizers (PSs) to specifically accumulate in tumors even in organelle, and avoid the phototoxic damage during delivery. Herein, a microneedle patch (AIE-mito-TPP@MN) containing mitochondria- and lysosomes- dual targeting prodrug-like PSs (AIE-mito-TPP/AlPcSNa) that is self-assembled by mitochondria-targeted aggregation-induced-emission molecule (AIE-mito-TPP) and lysosome-targeted aluminum phthalocyanine tetrasulfonate (AlPcSNa), is developed to achieve cancer-cell-organelle-specific targeting delivery for precise PDT with high selectivity and low phototoxic damage. AIE-mito-TPP/AlPcSNa displays prodrug-like activity via the regulated photoactivity to reduce the phototoxic damage caused by the "always on" PSs.

Transient receptor potential channel subfamily M member 3 (TRPM3) is a Ca-permeable cation channel activated by the neurosteroid pregnenolone sulfate (PregS) or heat, serving as a nociceptor in the peripheral sensory system. Recent discoveries of autosomal dominant neurodevelopmental disorders caused by gain-of-function mutations in TRPM3 highlight its role in the central nervous system. Notably, the TRPM3 inhibitor primidone, an anticonvulsant, has proven effective in treating patients with TRPM3-linked neurological disorders and in mouse models of thermal nociception.

Vascular stabilization is a mechanosensitive process, in part driven by blood flow. Here, we demonstrate the involvement of the mechanosensitive ion channel, Piezo1, in promoting arterial accumulation of vascular smooth muscle cells (vSMCs) during zebrafish development. Using a series of small molecule antagonists or agonists to temporally regulate Piezo1 activity, we identified a role for the Piezo1 channel in regulating klf2a, a blood flow responsive transcription factor, expression levels and altered targeting of vSMCs between arteries and veins.

Acetylation is critically required for p53 activation, though it remains poorly understood how p53 acetylation is regulated in glioblastoma (GBM). This study reveals that p53 acetylation is a favorable prognostic marker for GBM, regardless of p53 status, and that Smad1, a key negative regulator of p53 acetylation, is involved in this process. Smad1 forms a complex with p53 and p300, inhibiting p300's interaction with p53 and leading to reduced p53 acetylation and increased Smad1 acetylation in GBM.
