Host immunity and commensal bacteria synergistically maintain intestinal homeostasis and mediate colonization resistance against pathogens. However, the molecular and cellular mechanisms remain unclear. Here, with a mouse infection model of Citrobacter rodentium, a natural mouse intestinal pathogen that mimics human enteropathogenic Escherichia coli and enterohaemorrhagic Escherichia coli, we find that group 3 innate lymphoid cells (ILC3s) can protect the host from infection by regulating gut microbiota.

Application of biodegradable polylactic acid (PLA) is limited by its poor toughness. This research focuses on modifying PLA using thermoplastic elastomers (TPO), primarily due to their dual advantages of enhancing performance and reducing application costs. Two thermoplastic polyolefin elastomers (TPO) (NS06, Versify2300) were blended to prepare a superior elastomer TPO(NV) (NS06:Versify2300 = 80:20).

Based on its ultra-low backscattering characteristic, anti-resonant hollow-core fiber is a good medium for bidirectional transmission, which means that the wavelengths of the transmission channels are the same in both directions. In this Letter, we present the first, to the best of our knowledge, demonstration of S + C + L-band same-wavelength bidirectional transmission in an anti-resonant hollow-core fiber. By using a commercial real-time coherent optical transceivers and amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) source, a total net throughput of 273.

Beam-steered infrared (IR) light communication has gained tremendous attention as one of the solutions of congested wireless communication traffic. High performance active beam-steering devices play a crucial role in data allocation and exchange. Conventional beam-steering devices such as spatial light modulator (SLM) and micro-electrical mechanical system (MEMS) mirror and the current emerging nonmechanical beam-steering metasurface-based devices are challenging to realize a large tunable steering angle beyond several degrees, which significantly hinders the spatial application of optical wireless communications (OWC).

In the current development of the plastics industry, the use of biodegradable and recycled plastics not only effectively reduces the volume of landfills and incineration but also significantly decreases environmental damage. However, the extensive application of biodegradable polylactic acid (PLA) is limited by its poor toughness and thermal properties. The study introduced recycled linear low-density polyethylene (R-LLDPE) and ethylene-octene copolymer (POE) to modify PLA, primarily based on their excellent toughness and thermal resistance.

Alport syndrome (AS) is a genetic disorder characterized by kidney disease and hearing/vision abnormalities, resulting from mutations in the COL4A3, COL4A4, or COL4A5 genes. While numerous mutations have been identified in AS cases, the precise molecular mechanisms, particularly for compound mutations, remain under investigation. This study investigated the molecular mechanisms of AS in a proband with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) using whole exome sequencing, which identified two compound heterozygous COL4A3 missense mutations: NM_000091.

Background: The prevalence of possible sarcopenia is notably high among maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients. Possible sarcopenia, defined as a decrease in muscle strength and/or somatic function, is an early and reversible condition between non-sarcopenic and sarcopenia, and early recognition and intervention for possible sarcopenia is important for preventing adverse outcomes and improving the quality of life of these patients. This study aimed to establish a simple and effective model for screening and identifying MHD patients at high risk of possible sarcopenia by using 50 kHz-Whole Body Phase Angle (PhA), with a specific focus on gender differences.

The PLA-g-(GMA-co-St) graft copolymer (PGS) was prepared using melt-free radical grafting technology, PGS and ESO were simultaneously employed as compatibilizers for the poly (lactic acid)/poly (butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PLA/PBAT) blends. The effects of the type and amount of compatibilizers on the properties of the blends were studied. The results reveal that the epoxy groups in PGS and ESO can interact with the terminal groups of PLA and PBAT.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates how dibutyl itaconate (DBI) enhances the compatibility of poly (lactic acid) (PLA) and polypropylene carbonate (PPC) by creating a copolymer structure, resulting in improved physical properties.
  • - At an optimal DBI amount of 10 wt%, the blending resulted in significant improvements in flexibility and mechanical strength, with the elongation at break and impact strength markedly higher than the neat PLA/PPC blends.
  • - DBI addition also enhanced the degradation properties of PLA/PPC by increasing hydrolysis of ester bonds, leading to a much higher mass loss rate and reducing haze without sacrificing light transmittance.

Introduction: Embryo implantation requires synchronous communication between the embryo and maternal endometrium. Inadequate maternal endometrial receptivity is one of the principal causes for embryo implantation failure [especially repeated implantation failure (RIF)] when biopsied good-quality euploid embryos are transferred. An RNA-seq-based endometrial receptivity test (rsERT) was previously established to precisely guide successful embryo implantation.
