(1) The accuracy of patient-derived xenografts (PDXs) in predicting ADP-ribose polymerase inhibitor (PARPi) efficacy in ovarian cancer was tested, novel biomarkers were investigated, and whether PARPis could replace platinum-based chemotherapy as a first-line therapy was explored. (2) PDXs were reconstructed for 40 patients with ovarian cancer, and niraparib, olaparib and paclitaxel, and carboplatin (TC) sensitivity tests were conducted. Whole exon sequencing and homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) scores were performed, and patient clinical information was collected.

Background: Morbidity and Mortality (M&M) conferences allow clinicians to review adverse events and identify areas for improvement. There are few reports of structured M&M conferences in low- and middle-income countries and no report of collaborative efforts to standardize them.

Methods: The present study aims to gather general surgeons representing most of Peru's urban surgical care and, in collaboration, with trauma quality improvement experts develop a M&M conferences toolkit with the expectation that its diffusion impacts their reported clinical practice.

Background: Pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) is the first-line treatment for urinary incontinence, but adherence to PFMT is generally poor. Currently, a number of novel strategies exist to facilitate adherence of PFMT. We sought to determine effectiveness of mHealth app-based PFMT for treating stress urinary incontinence (SUI) or stress-predominant mixed urinary incontinence (MUI) in women.

Article Synopsis
  • Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is a tough-to-treat cancer that often becomes resistant to current platinum-based chemotherapy and radiotherapy methods.
  • The PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway plays a significant role in SCLC, frequently aiding in the cancer's resistance to treatments by influencing how cancer cells metabolize glucose.
  • Understanding the connection between this pathway, glucose metabolism, and factors like hypoxia could lead to new strategies for overcoming treatment resistance and ultimately improving patient outcomes.

Olfactory dysfunction (OD) accompanied by depression or anxiety is a very common clinical problem, and there has been a growing number of studies on OD with depression or anxiety in recent decades. This study performed bibliometric and visual analyses of the literature on OD with depression or anxiety to derive research trends and identify emerging research foci. Relevant publications were obtained from the Science Citation Index-Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index in the Web of Science Core Collection databases (2002-2021).

Purpose: Patients with advanced ovarian cancer often undergo en bloc rectosigmoid resection with total hysterectomy to completely debulk the pelvis. We describe a unique rectosigmoid sparing en bloc pelvic resection technique for fixed ovarian tumors infiltrating the colon wall.

Methods: From July 2020 to June 2021, 20 patients with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) underwent rectosigmoid sparing en bloc pelvic resection successfully at our institution.

This article investigates the fault-tolerant coordinated tracking control problem for networked fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) against faults and communication delays. By supplementing the commonly used Gaussian functions in the fuzzy neural networks (FNNs) with sine-cosine functions and constructing two kinds of recurrent loops within the FNN architecture, double recurrent perturbation FNNs are cleverly designed to learn the unknown terms containing faults and uncertainties. Then, adaptive laws are designed for double recurrent perturbation FNNs.

Background: Imbalance in L-arginine and nitric oxide (NO) metabolism has been implicated in the pathophysiology of asthma and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), and both diseases impact the other's morbidity. We sought to determine whether L-arginine/NO metabolism differs between adults with asthma with or without comorbid OSA, and its association with asthma morbidity.

Methods: This is a cross-sectional study of 322 adults with asthma recruited in Denver, CO and New York City, NY.

Co-crystal materials formed by stacking different molecules with weak interactions are a hot research topic. In this work, we theoretically investigate the intermolecular interactions and charge transfer properties of the supramolecular BDBT-TCNB co-crystal (BTC). The π-π bonds, hydrogen bonds, and S-N bonds in the BTC bind the BDBT and TCNB molecules together to form a highly ordered co-crystal and lead to the co-crystal's excellent two-photon absorption (TPA) properties.

Background: The aim of this work was to screen and validate biomarkers of ovarian cancer-initiating cells to detect the mechanisms of recurrence of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC).

Methods: Stably labelled the amino acid in side population (SP) cells of epithelial ovarian cancer which were rich in cancer-initiating cells and non-SP cells with isotope in culture and differentially expressed cellular membrane proteins in SP cells were identified through proteomics technology. The new candidate biomarker was screened and validated through RT-PCR and western blot.

Three monoterpene alkaloids amycolasporin A and (±) amycolasporins B and C have been synthesized for the first time from commercially available materials in yields of 31%, 14% and 21%, respectively. Their six analogues (18, 19, 30a and 30d-30f) were synthesized through a similar protocol. Meanwhile, the antibacterial activity of all synthesized molecules was evaluated, showing different levels of bioactivity.

Interfacing aptamers with carbon fiber microelectrodes (CFEs) provides a versatile platform to probe the chemical activity in a living brain at the molecular level. However, new approaches are needed for the efficient and stable modification of electrode surfaces with aptamers. Here, we present an electrochemical conjugation strategy to covalently couple aptamers onto CFEs with high chemoselectivity, efficiency, and stability for sensing in the brain.

Importance: Tirofiban is a highly selective nonpeptide antagonist of glycoprotein IIb/IIIa receptor, which reversibly inhibits platelet aggregation. It remains uncertain whether intravenous tirofiban is effective to improve functional outcomes for patients with large vessel occlusion ischemic stroke undergoing endovascular thrombectomy.

Objective: To assess the efficacy and adverse events of intravenous tirofiban before endovascular thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke secondary to large vessel occlusion.

Sacubitril/valsartan was indicated for the treatment of heart failure and hypertension in patients with end-stage renal disease on peritoneal dialysis therapy. Herein, a rapid, sensitive and robust method based on ultra-liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) was developed and validated for the determination of the concentrations of valsartan, sacubitril and its major metabolite LBQ657 in plasma, urine and peritoneal dialysis fluid. Samples were extracted from various biological fluids using protein precipitation.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to assess whether adding high-dose vitamin C to the standard chemotherapy (FOLFOX ± bevacizumab) would improve outcomes for patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC).
  • - Results showed that there was no significant difference in progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), or response rates between the vitamin C group and the control group, although patients with RAS mutations did experience longer PFS with vitamin C.
  • - Overall, high-dose vitamin C did not provide a clear benefit over standard chemotherapy for mCRC, except potentially for patients with specific genetic mutations (RAS mutation).

Deficient mismatch repair (dMMR) or the microsatellite instability (MSI) phenotype occupied approximately 15-18% of CRC patients. Previous studies showed that dMMR/MSI status is a favorable prognostic factor for stage II/III CRC patients. For metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) patients, only 5% of patients have the dMMR/MSI-H phenotype.
