Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a malignant tumor with a high incidence rate in certain regions. MicroRNA (miRNA/miR)-22-3p is implicated in the regulation of tumorigenesis and progression. However, the biological role of miRNA-22-3p in the progression of NPC remains unclear.

Arsenic is a ubiquitous hazardous metalloid that poses a significant threat to human health. Although researchers have investigated the detrimental effects of arsenic on the thyroid, a comprehensive exploration of its toxicological impact and underlying molecular mechanisms remains to be conducted. Both this study and our previous reports demonstrated that chronic exposure to sodium arsenite (NaAsO) results in histological impairment and dysfunction of the thyroid glands in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compares vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (vNOTES) to transumbilical laparoendoscopic single-site surgery (LESS) for hysterectomy, focusing on safety and benefits.
  • The research involved 192 patients in Chengdu, China, and found that vNOTES resulted in shorter surgery times and quicker recovery, but had a higher conversion rate and slightly increased blood loss.
  • The conclusion emphasizes vNOTES advantages in minimal invasiveness and cosmetic results, while recommending improvements in surgical techniques to minimize risks associated with the approach.

Implant-associated Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) osteomyelitis (IASO) leads to high orthopedic implant failure rates due to the formation of Staphylococcal abscess community within the bone marrow and bacterial colonization in the osteocyte lacuno-canalicular network (OLCN). To address this, antimicrobial peptides (HHC36)-loaded titania nanotubes (NTs) are developed on titanium screws (Ti-NTs-P-A), which integrate pH-responsive polymethacrylic acid to control HHC36 release for eradicating bacteria in IASO.

Background: The optimal treatment for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries with early-stage symptomless osteoarthritis (OA) remains unclear. This study aimed to compare the clinical outcomes of ACL reconstruction (ACLR) in patients with ACL injury in the presence and absence of early-stage symptomless OA.

Methods: Medical records of patients with early-stage symptomless OA who sustained ACL injury and underwent ACLR from January 2018 to December 2020 at a single institution were retrospectively reviewed.

This study proposes a physics-enhanced neural network, PENTAGON, as an inference framework for volumetric tomography applications. By leveraging the synergistic combination of data-prior and forward-imaging model, we can accurately predict 3D optical fields, even when the number of projection views decreases to three. PENTAGON is proven to overcome the generalization limitation of data-driven deep learning methods due to data distribution shift, and eliminate distortions introduced by conventional iteration algorithms with limited projections.

Inappropriate CD4 T helper (T) cell differentiation leads to progression of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, yet the regulatory mechanisms governing stability and activity of transcription factors controlling T cell differentiation remain elusive. Here, we describe how pseudokinase serine threonine kinase 40 (STK40) facilitates T1/T17 differentiation under pathological conditions. STK40 in T cells is dispensable for immune homeostasis in resting mice.

The case was a 15-year-old male with a history of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia refractory to medical therapy and prior catheter. A repeat electrophysiology study and catheter ablation were applied. Baseline AH and HV intervals were 100 and 55 ms during normal sinus rhythm (NSR), respectively.

As a newly defined type of programmed cell death, ferroptosis is considered a potent weapon against tumors due to its distinct mechanism from other types of programmed cell death. Ferroptosis is triggered by the uncontrolled accumulation of hydroperoxyl polyunsaturated fatty acid-containing phospholipids, also called lipid peroxidation. The lipid peroxidation, generated through enzymatic and non-enzymatic mechanisms, drives changes in cell morphology and the destruction of membrane integrity.

Article Synopsis
  • - The human placenta is a crucial organ with various cell types that support fetal growth, substance exchange, and immune functions, making it essential for a healthy pregnancy.
  • - Abnormalities in placental cells can cause pregnancy issues, but the underlying mechanisms are still not fully understood; new technologies like single-cell and spatial transcriptomics have helped reveal cell diversity and interactions within the placenta.
  • - The review explores existing research on normal and disease-affected placentas, including conditions like preeclampsia and gestational diabetes, while also addressing the limitations of current studies and suggesting future research directions.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common malignant lymphoma in adults, and the use of rituximab has greatly improved the survival of DLBCL patients. Currently, the first-line treatment regimen for DLBCL is still rituximab plus cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisolone (R-CHOP), which significantly improves outcomes for DLBCL patients. However, a percentage of patients still experience refractory or relapsed disease.

Fourier phase retrieval (FPR) aims to reconstruct an object image from the magnitude of its Fourier transform. Despite its widespread utility in various fields of engineering and science, the inherent ill-posed nature of the FPR problem poses a significant challenge. Here we propose a learning-based approach that incorporates the physical model of the FPR imaging system with a deep neural network.

Introduction: The study aims to predict tooth extraction decision based on four machine learning methods and analyze the feature contribution, so as to shed light on the important basis for experts of tooth extraction planning, providing reference for orthodontic treatment planning.

Methods: This study collected clinical information of 192 patients with malocclusion diagnosis and treatment plans. This study used four machine learning strategies, including decision tree, random forest, support vector machine (SVM) and multilayer perceptron (MLP) to predict orthodontic extraction decisions on clinical examination data acquired during initial consultant containing Angle classification, skeletal classification, maxillary and mandibular crowding, overjet, overbite, upper and lower incisor inclination, vertical growth pattern, lateral facial profile.

Objectives: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) preconditioning at "Quchi" (LI11) and "Xuehai" (SP10) in prevention of urticaria.

Methods: Twenty-four male SD rats were randomly divided into control, model and preconditioning of EA (Pre-EA) groups (8 rats/group). The urticaria model was established by intradermal injection of dilute allogeneic antioalbumin serum at the spots of the bilateral symmetry of the spine on the back, and followed by tail venous injection of mixture solution of egg albumin diluent, plus 0.
