produces the mycotoxin fumonisin B (FB), which disrupts sphingolipid biosynthesis by inhibiting ceramide synthase and affects the health of plants, animals, and humans. The means by which protects itself from its own mycotoxin are not completely understood. Some fumonisin () cluster genes do not contribute to the biosynthesis of the compound, but their function has remained enigmatic.

Background: The degree of yellowing in tobacco leaves is an important indicator for determining the maturity and harvesting time of tobacco leaves. Decreasing chlorophyll levels helps speed up the ripening process of tobacco leaves for easier mechanical harvesting. Identifying and utilizing genes that regulate yellowing in tobacco leaves are crucial for developing tobacco varieties suitable for mechanized harvesting and understanding the molecular processes that control leaf color changes.

Background: Growing evidence demonstrated that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are closely related with chemoresistance in colorectal cancer (CRC). Mitophagy serves as an essential factor to maintain the quality of tumor cells. However, it is unclear whether lncRNAs are involved in mitophagy regulation in CRC.

The global spread of the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) A(H5N1) virus poses a serious pandemic threat, necessitating the swift development of effective vaccines. The success of messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine technology in the COVID-19 pandemic, marked by its rapid development and scalability, demonstrates its potential for addressing other infectious threats, such as HPAI A(H5N1). We therefore evaluated mRNA vaccine candidates targeting panzootic influenza A(H5) clade 2.

African swine fever (ASF), a highly virulent viral infection, poses a significant threat to the global pig industry. Currently, there are no commercially available vaccines against ASF. While the crucial role of interferon (IFN) in combating viral infections is well-established, its impact on the clinical signs and mortality rates of ASF remains unclear.

Herein, we develop a dual catalytic platform for the 1,2- or 1,4-alkylacylation reaction of 1,3-dienes with readily available alkyl halides and aldehydes by merging -heterocyclic carbene catalysis with photoinduced palladium catalysis. A series of β,γ-unsaturated ketones are obtained in good to high yields. Mechanistic studies suggest that this reaction involves a radical process.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) is the pathogen that causes porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS), leading to abortion of sows and the manifestation of respiratory diseases in piglets. PRRSV strains are categorized into two distinct genotypes: PRRSV-1 and PRRSV-2. PRRSV-2 can be further classified into several lineages, including sub-lineage 1.

Regenerative responses are particularly important in the lungs, which are critical for gas exchange and frequently challenged by environmental insults. The lung progenitor cells play a central role in the lung regeneration response, and their dysfunction is associated with various lung diseases. Understanding the mechanisms regulating lung progenitor cell function is essential for developing new therapeutic approaches to promote lung regeneration.

Background: The objective of this study is to utilize metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) to analyze the risk factors causing negative microbial cultures, comprehensively delineate the microbial profiles neglected by traditional cultures, and optimize the pathogenetic diagnostic procedure accordingly.

Research Design And Methods: We enrolled 341 patients diagnosed with OI at our center between 2016 and 2022, and gathered data including age, gender, clinical diagnosis, duration of antibiotic use prior to sampling, microbial culture results, and mNGS results for these patients. According to microbial detection results, risk factors for negative microbial culture and mNGS results were investigated through univariate and multivariate analyses, and the microbial profile in cases with negative microbial cultures was summarized in conjunction with mNGS results.

Background: Pathological scars (PSs), resulting from abnormal skin repair, chronic inflammation, and fibrosis, affect millions of people. Previous studies have demonstrated that skin microbiota (SM) plays a role in cutaneous inflammation and healing, but the interplay between PSs and SM remains unclear yet.

Objective: To investigate the causal associations between SM and two specific PSs: hypertrophic scars (HSs) and keloids.

Introduction: Abnormalities in total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and triglycerides (TG) are each associated with increased cardiovascular risk, after adjusting for non-lipid risk factors. However, whether and to what extent the association for each lipid measure is confounded by other lipid measures is less understood.

Aim: This study aims to investigate the association of each lipid measure with cardiovascular and all-cause mortality while precluding the confounding caused by abnormalities in other lipid measures.

Due to the periodic emission of pollutants, the exposure mode of contaminants in water bodies is mostly pulse exposure, and the toxic effects of fluctuating exposure on aquatic animals are not consistent with traditional toxicological experiments of constant exposure. The toxic effects of heavy metal antimony (Sb) on the swimming behavior of Pelophylax nigromaculatus tadpoles after pulse exposure (PESb) and continuous exposure (CESb) for 28 days were explored. The mechanisms were analyzed from the perspectives of tail muscle metabolism and transcriptomics.

Purpose: Following failed internal fixation of intertrochanteric fractures (FIF-ITF), the decision to use a long-stem or standard-stem femoral implant in hip arthroplasty is still debated. This study aimed to explore how the healing status of fractures after FIF-ITF failure affects the choice of femoral stem and clinical outcomes.

Methods: Our retrospective cohort study reviewed 105 cases of patients with FIF-ITF who underwent hip arthroplasty at three tertiary Grade A hospitals between December 2012 and December 2022.
