The results of many epidemiological studies suggest a bidirectional causality may exist between epilepsy and Parkinson's disease (PD). However, the underlying molecular landscape linking these two diseases remains largely unknown. This study aimed to explore this possible bidirectional causality by identifying differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in each disease as well as their intersection based on two respective disease-related datasets.

Controlling periodic Fano resonances of quantum acoustic waves with a giant atom coupled to a microwave waveguide.

Nanoscale Fano resonances, with applications from telecommunications to ultra-sensitive biosensing, have prompted extensive research. We demonstrate that a superconducting qubit, jointly coupled to microwave waveguides and an inter-digital transducer composite device, can exhibit acoustic Fano resonances. Our analytical framework, leveraging the Taylor series approximation, elucidates the origins of these quantum acoustic resonances with periodic Fano-like interference.

Long-term follow-up seizure outcomes after corpus callosotomy: A systematic review with meta-analysis.

Background: Corpus callosotomy (CC) is appropriate for patients with seizures of a bilateral or diffuse origin, or those with seizures of a unilateral origin with rapid spread to the contralateral cerebral hemisphere. The efficiency of CC in patients with drug-resistant epilepsy is a long-term concern because most articles reporting the surgical results of CC arise from small case series, and the durations of follow-up vary.

Methods: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science were searched to identify papers published before November 8, 2021.

Sleepiness and injury risk in emergency medical service workers in Taiwan.

Background: Insufficient sleep is a common health and safety risk factor in high-impact workplaces where workers are required to take rotating shifts. However, studies on sleepiness-related risks and incidents, particularly among emergency medical services (EMS) workers are limited.

Efficacy and safety of Yunxiangjing derived from Chinese herbal medicine administered as an enema in the management of acute radiation-induced proctitis in patients with pelvic malignancy.

Objective: To assess the efficacy and safety of Yunxiangjing (YXJ), derived from Chinese herbal medicine, in the management of acute radiation-induced proctitis (ARIP) in patients with pelvic malignancy.

Methods: Forty-eight patients with grade 2 ARIP were administered YXJ as an enema (1 : 30 dilution) for 2 weeks and followed up for 2 years. All were assessed for response and ARIP grade.

The benefits of psychosocial interventions for cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy.

Background: Many patients with cancer experience depression and anxiety, and an associated decrease in quality of life (QOL) during radiation therapy (RT). The main objective of the study was to determine the benefits of psychosocial interventions for cancer patients who received RT.

Methods: Patients with cancer (n = 178) who agreed to participate in the study were randomized to the intervention arm (n = 89) or the control arm (n = 89).
