  • Insufficient physical activity is common among older adults, and this study focuses on those aged 80 and above, using data from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey.
  • Participants were categorized based on their physical activity levels, and their survival times were analyzed over a median follow-up of 3 years.
  • The results showed that older adults who remained physically active or became active after being inactive had significantly longer survival times compared to those who remained inactive, highlighting the importance of regular physical activity for longevity in this age group.

Aim: To investigate the clinical characteristics and health resource costs among children hospitalised for injuries in southern Sichuan, China, and to provide guidance for prevention and treatment.

Methods: We collected clinical data concerning children aged from 29 days to 18 years hospitalised for injuries from January 1, 2017, to December 31, 2021, retrospectively analysing the basic characteristics, evolution of injury characteristics over time, risk factors for events with adverse outcomes, and health resource costs.

Results: Among 5,826 hospitalised children with injuries, males (63.

The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) countries are mainly developing countries with severe energy poverty. This study combines the entropy weight and the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method to measure energy poverty at the household, enterprise, and national levels in 82 BRI countries. This study aims to investigate and discuss how to encourage BRI countries to develop effective decision-making mechanisms for developing more targeted supply-side solutions to domestic energy poverty.

Article Synopsis
  • Glutathione peroxidase (GPX) is an important antioxidant enzyme that helps reduce oxidative damage, and its GPX1 Pro198Leu (rs1050450) polymorphism has been linked to cancer risk, though findings have varied.
  • This meta-analysis examined 52 publications and 60 case-control studies, involving over 21,000 cancer patients and 30,000 controls, to clarify the relationship between this polymorphism and cancer susceptibility.
  • Results showed a significant association between GPX1 (rs1050450) polymorphism and cancer risk, particularly for bladder, head and neck, and brain cancers, suggesting that this genetic variation could serve as a potential marker for cancer risk with specific types of cancer

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates factors affecting prognosis in lymph node-negative gastric cancer (GC) patients, focusing on tumor size (Ts), lymph node count (LNs), and lymphovascular invasion (LVI).
  • A total of 1,019 patients were analyzed to identify independent prognostic factors and develop a new predictive model called the TsNL staging system.
  • The TsNL system showed improved accuracy in predicting survival outcomes compared to traditional methods, highlighting the importance of combining Ts, LNs, and LVI for better prognostic assessments.
