Beating Thermal Deterioration of Magnetization with Mn₄C and Exchange Bias in Mn⁻C Nanoparticles.

The magnetization of most materials decreases with increasing temperature due to thermal deterioration of magnetic ordering. Here, we show that Mn₄C phase can compensate the magnetization loss due to thermal agitation. The Mn⁻C nanoparticles containing ferrimagnetic Mn₄C and other Mn⁻C/Mn-O phases were prepared by using the traditional arc-discharge method.

Genotype-Guided Warfarin Dosing in Patients With Mechanical Valves: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Background: The clinical utility of genotype-guided warfarin dosing remains controversial. The objective of this trial was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of genotype-guided warfarin dosing in East Asians.

Methods: A double-blind, randomized control trial was performed to compare a genotype-guided dosing algorithm (CYP2C9, VKORC1, and CYP4F2) with a clinical-guided one in the initiation treatment for patients with mechanical heart valves.

The role of β-adrenergic receptors and p38MAPK signaling pathways in physiological processes of cardiosphere-derived cells.

The effects of β adrenergic receptors (β-ARs) and p38 mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) pathways on cardiosphere-derived cells (CDCs) are largely unknown. This study aimed to investigate the roles of β-ARs and p38MAPK pathways on the proliferation, apoptosis, and differentiation capacity of CDCs. The CDCs were treated with β1-AR blocker (Met group), β2-AR antagonist (ICI group), and p38MAPK inhibitor (SB group), non-selective β-AR blocker (PRO group), and β-AR agonist (ISO group).

Palm oil is one of the most important agroindustries in Malaysia. Huge quantities of palm oil mill effluent (POME) pose a great threat to aqueous environment due to its very high COD. To make full use of discharged wastes, the integrated "zero discharge" pilot-scale industrial plant comprising "pretreatment-anaerobic and aerobic process-membrane separation" was continuously operated for 1 year.

[Experimental study on effect of curcumin on inhibiting injury of free radical in pulmonary fibrosis rats].

Objective: To study on the effect and mechanism of curcumin on inhibiting injury induced by free radical in pulmonary fibrosis.

Method: One hundred and forty-four male SD rats were randomly divided into 6 groups (24 rats in each group). Rats in the model control group, positive medicine group, and high, moderate and low curcumin groups were injected with a single dose of bleomycin by trachea, and rats in sham-model control group with same volume normal saline.
